Face the light
Something I was talking about in a networking group recently really seemed to land. It was such a simple thing, but one of those small shifts that changes everything. If you’re taking your own photos, face the light. It sounds obvious, but it’s so easy to sit with a window behind you or bright light coming from the back, and it leaves your face in shadow. Turning towards the light, even slightly, brings clarity, softness, and connection to your photo. It’s often the difference between a photo that feels a bit flat and one that feels natural and engaging.

@Gemma Davies not silly at all, Gemma. It’s one of those things no one tells you until they do. And once you’ve seen it, you’ll use it forever.

@Gemma Davies well done you!
Intro
Hi all! I am a Brand Strategist who works with founders ready to scale. I currently offer Brand Strategy, Visual Identity / Logo Design, Websites & Automation setup. I've actually spent the last 4 years running social media campaigns for clients, and know it's worth. BUT after Meta randomly deactivated my whole personal profile for no reason that I can see (which means I can't currently manage the accounts properly), I thought maybe stepping into a space away from anything that could cause that gut wrenching feeling would be a great start. I was raised and trained on socials for marketing, so I'm very much looking forward to learning how to leverage marketing without necessarily relying on social. I am looking forward to connecting with all the amazing business owners on here!

@Miri Campbell yes, I agree – having someone to talk to when something like that happens makes such a difference. Have you had a similar experience yourself?

@Miri Campbell That’s so frustrating, isn’t it, especially when there’s no clear reason. I had something similar when I was starting my business - both Instagram and Facebook were blocked at different points. I managed to get them back but it would’ve made such a difference to have someone to actually talk about it to.
🎉 Celebrating our community voices this week…
One of my favourite things to watch in this space is how quickly people go from “just joined” → to actually being seen. Because it isn't about one person teaching - this group isn't about me. It's about the room! All of you showing up - asking questions - sharing what's working - replying to each other. That's where real community comes from 🥰 A few gentle reminders if you want to build momentum here: ✨ Comment more than you scroll or post ✨ Ask better questions (this changes everything) ✨ Share what you’re learning as you go - not just once it’s “perfect” And something I really believe: It's not about being the loudest person in the room - it's about being someone people recognise, trust, and come back to. So if you’ve posted, commented, or supported someone this week - I see you 🤍 And if you’ve been quietly watching… this is your nudge to join in. 🎉 Congrats on the week to: @Julie Butler @Christiane Schroeter @Andi Vega (only joined 6 days ago!!) @Miri Campbell @Mona Weathers @Kerrie Wearing @Carrie McFarland @Lara Sloan @Rachel Eglinton @Sharon Justice ** Follow these members so you can catch more of these posts and comments.

@Kerrie Wearing That sounds like a really thoughtful space to create. I can see how that would lead to deeper, more meaningful conversations. It makes sense now why you were thinking about engagement in that way.

@Kylie Kelly much appreciate, Kylie. You’re so generous.
Hey there!
I'm a New England brand and interior design photographer, mom of 2 kiddos and 2 fur-babies living on the seacoast of N.H.. Left corporate and went back to my creative roots and building a business that makes me happy and allows me to show up for my family.

@Christina Frasier You must see some amazing places for shoots. What kind of interiors do you find yourself most drawn to? I used to sell through Shutterstock, but I’m now wondering about offering small nature-based collections for business owners instead. I’m curious how you’re thinking about prints. Is it more for homes, or for business spaces?

@Christina Frasier I love that - natural light and texture makes such a difference. Those are always the spaces I’m drawn to as well. With Shutterstock, I didn’t find it particularly worthwhile financially. It felt more like a place to put the images than something that really supported the work. I also stepped away once I moved into brand photography. What you’re describing sounds much more aligned, especially if you’re already thinking about your interior design clients and the kinds of spaces they’re drawn to. It feels like a more direct connection between your work and where it lives. How are you imagining someone finding and choosing your prints?
The Unforgettable Style Workshop
Hi everyone 👋 Kylie suggested I share this in here, as it might be great for some of you (especially if you're in business!). I'm currently enrolling for my Unforgettable Style Workshop, a live 3-day workshop for women in business who want to feel more confident in what they wear and more aligned in how they show up — whether that’s on Zoom, at networking events, speaking, or in client-facing spaces. If that sounds like something you need right now, here’s the link to check it out: https://janemow.com/workshop
