September Update - Winter 25/26 Season Snowfall Outlook Data
September 5th, 2025 – ECMWF Seasonal Model Update Today’s ECMWF seasonal run keeps the weak La Niña in play a bit longer. Instead of fading quickly, the signal now holds through at least January, with neutral conditions not expected until mid to late February. Here’s what the maps are showing: - Nov–Dec–Jan: Greens light up across northern California and into the Sierra — often a sign of more storm action and a better shot at building early season snowpack. - Jan–Feb–Mar: More green, though a shade lighter. That’s still a positive signal for a full season’s worth of snowfall. Yes, this far out we’re in “fantasy land,” but green is always the color we want to see. Take a look at the ECMWF maps below — green shades mark wetter than normal trends, while brown shades point to drier conditions. September runs are a key checkpoint. If the Sierra stays painted green again in October’s update, confidence builds for a solid and steady winter. For now, it’s encouraging to see the signal lean our way. — Snowman 👉 Follow the Mammoth Weather Story here: https://www.mammothsnowman.com/mammoth-mountain-weather-forecast/

Let's hope that forecast sticks around.

Forecast, outlook, fantasy charts... they all feel the same. Until there is snow on the ground, it is pointless to measure it. Still fun to look at darker green spots on a map.
Mountain Bike Park Update 7-25-25
Rode the park on Wednesday: My Route was Little Eagle to Main via the Chair 15 service road to Paper Route to Uptown to Main Lodge. I then rode the Gondola to the top and did Off the Top, followed by Gravy Train, Up and Over, Break Through Short Cut, Roma’s Road, and then down Skid Marks to Manzanita, Gopher Trail, Shotgun, Big Ring, Paper Route, Timber Ridge, and Juniper. That route took me 3 hours, and yes, I was on the Turbo Levo E MTB that I prefer in the Bike Park. Lifts Open are Gondola 1 and 2, Discovery Chair, and the Village Shuttle to Main Lodge. Chair 2 is also running on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Here is the link to view the current status of open and closed trails. Please note that the Mountain View Trail is currently closed due to a snowmaking project. Hopefully, that will be done soon so that the trail can open. Trail conditions remain great, but trails continue to dry out, so hopefully we see some rain sooner rather than later. Off the Top does have some washboard on the upper long switchbacks, so be ready for the ripple effect. Skid Marks is open and is a ton of fun right now. For Mountain Bike rentals, both Footloose Sports and Black Tie Adventure Rentals have some great selections. If you’re coming up from the flatlands, I highly recommend an E-MTB unless you’re just doing downhill laps; then, I recommend getting an enduro bike. The E-MTB pedal-assist bikes make riding at 8,000-11,000 feet much more enjoyable. There is no throttle, but yes, there is a motor, and the added boost gets rid of the lung-busting punishment you get at high altitude VC Race Schedule: August 8th Flow, August 29 Follow Me, September 12 Eliminator. Just got off the phone with Mammoth. According to the service rep, last cabin from Main to Mid Station is at 5pm. Hope they are correct cause I'm coming next Wednesday and hope to get some laps in during the late afternoon.

Rode the park two and half days. Arrived Wednesday around 1:30 and put in a quick 8k. So much fun. Sure, there are braking bumps OFT, but just ignore them and go fast over the tops. I spoke with the lift team at the gondola. Final ride to the top is around 4:37 and last cabin to mid station is 5:05. Officially it's 4:30 and 5:00, but worth checking with the lifties if you are just a few minutes late. Called it a day at 3:30 yesterday and saw lightning strikes as I drove out of town. Perfect timing.
Off the Top Mountain Biking Action

Thank you to the trail crews. Any word on Brake Thru down toward the Canyon zone? I read that Twilight and Velocity (and lower Cold Smoke) are open, but nothing about the rest of the trails. Can't imagine there is much snow left over in that direction. Headed back out there soon to get some MTB park action in

MTB Mammoth Rock Trail
Mammoth Rock Trail Information – 2.7/6 miles, 7,860-8,460’ elevation, 100% single track, Medium technicality, Moderate effort MRC is one of the original Mountain Bike rides that people have been riding here in town since the early ’80s. The trail stretches from near the top of Old Mammoth Road across and down the face of the Sherwin Mountain Range into the lower parts of Mammoth Lakes. While riding this trail you will be treated to some fantastic views and of course, you get to ride right under the iconic Mammoth Rock formation. The lower trailhead is located on Sherwin Creek Road, one-half mile past Sierra Meadows Ranch. There are several large propane tanks in the area of the trailhead. You will also see signs in the area guiding you to the trailhead you can’t miss. The first three-quarters of a mile of the trail follows an old mammoth jeep road, then it turns into a single-track. The single track climbs thru a large area of manzanita and then up a forested section. At one point you will reach a clearing caused by the great avalanche of February 1986. The trail then passes just below Mammoth Rock and then continues to the end, which intersects Old Mammoth Road. Now you can turn around and enjoy this ride as a downhill. Caution: Downhill riders please slow down and watch for Horses and Hikers. This trail has heavy usage so you are going to encounter other users. Trail etiquette requires mountain bikers to yield to horses and hikers. Mammoth Rock Trail is a fun family trail that everyone who loves to ride mountain bikes should just check this trail out. Snowman ☃️

Those downed trees are cleared. Rode it in early June and never had to get off the bike. Accessed via Panorama MTB and Twin Lakes.
Monument
I was at a Napa winery called Parallel and they featured a cab named Monument which they said is a run at Mammoth, does anyone know this run. Thanks BTW the wine is very good

I think of Monument as the easiest way to Scottie's from top of chair 14. Scottie's is just too much side stepping
