Panning tuts?
Does anyone have any good tutorials for panning with orchestral elements? I cant find anything for trailer music for some reason..

I have been using ChatGPT for advice on Mixing and it has served me as a great guideline. In your prompt specify all the VSTs you are using in your composition and that you are making a trailer track. The results are not perfect but they will put you in the right direction.let me know if you try it. Personally I have learned a lot about mixing through ChatGPT
What genre do you put when releasing a track
Hey everybody! I want to release a track. It's a cinematic orchestral trailer track, but I didn't sell it or anything, I just want to put it on music distributors (spotify, apple music, etc.). I get to choose what genre my track is, but there isn't anything really working with what I compose. I don't really know how much of an impact it can have either. I'm releasing with Distrokid. Thank you!

I would focus on releasens and following up on 1 platform. I recommend Spotify, they have Spotify for artists which gives you a great tool for following up what is going on with your track. You can also promote your track by playlisting. You can check out potential traction for your song by looking out for playlists that have cinematic music. Epicore is a good genre.
Best places to get feedback on cinematic music?
Hey all, I'm working full time but when I have time I'm producing cinematic music. However outside of this community I dont really have friends or other groups of folks that I can bounce tracks off of. All my other friends produce different kinds of music and/or aren't interested in what im doing HA. Anyways, do you guys have a good place for getting feedback on cinematic tracks you're working on by other professionals or folks in similar genre? Thanks so much, also interested in hearing other peoples WIP tracks.

I’m happy to give your tracks a listen and give you an honest feed back, there is another community which might interest you: Cinematic Music Made Easy on Skool. The community is reasonably active and it’s all about composing orchestral cinematic music. Good intro courses too on composition and orchestration. Is you’d like me to listen to any of your tracks send me a link to [email protected]
Composing underscore-ish Tracks (Advise and Exercises)
I like melodies. In fact, maybe i like them a little bit too much 😄. When i start a new piece i normally start with the melody and then find fitting chords to accompany it. Most of the times this works ok but when it comes to writing an underscore type like track, i really struggle, because my melodies tend to be to active. So basically the typical problem of overcomplicating things 😅. Can you guys recommend some sort of exercises to get better at this type of composing / Do you have some tipps , when it comes to writing such tracks ? Thanks in advance :)

If you are writing for underscore you should first work on a chord progression and try to keep it interesting as long as you can so it doesn't get boring. The melody should not be more than a phrase, it is after all an underscore
I am looking for feedback on my website
I have been working on my website for a while now, and would like some feedback on it: https://desmondthompson.com I already know some things that I could add (like credits of projects that I have worked on) but I would like to hear what you guys think. Is my website too bloated? How could I improve my reel?

Hi, here is my take on your website. The design is clean and the reel sounds good. What I miss are photos of yourself. Images of you will make the website more personal, people that have made it to your website will want to know about you and see your face. You have no statement about your style or specialty. Questions people might have: Do you make Sound Design?, What are your prefered musical styles? What instruments do you play?, How does your favorite project look? Remember that a potential customer will want to relate you to things he is familiar with which is why the above questions will help them get to know you. In sales there are many mantras that are being used. My personal favourite is the following: First you have to sell yourself (people have to buy into you) Second you sell what you can do (Once they accept you as an ok guy they need to know what you can do) Third you sell your product (Now you can talk about producing a track for him/her)
