We want to see you play
We want you to post videos of you playing. Nothing fancy at all. No special Camera. Just an iPhone or anything else you got lying around works great. Just post a minute or two of you playing. And share it to the group. Filming yourself and sharing is risky, it’s vulnerable, but it’s literally how you grow… and we all want to chime in and support you and talk about what we like in your playing - and what’s good in it. Motivation
Have you ever gotten frustrated and stopped playing for a few months? Then looked at your bass and just didn’t feel the motivation to pick it up and play? How did you finally get over that himp and start to play again?

I had hernia surgery last week and have to wait another week or two until I can pick up a bass again. I'm itching to play. So I suppose it's not a motivation problem, but definitely a road block.

Amp or No Amp
I’m fairly new to playing live. I think everyone has an image of what playing on stage would/should look like. And I always had an image of a full stack on stage behind me. After playing a few shows and hauling those two 410 cabs up and down my stairs I’m starting to wonder what the pros and cons of having amps on stage are. I have an IEM system so I don’t need an amp for monitoring. Are they good for filling the front of stage sound? Like filling in the gaps between the PA speakers? Posting a couple pictures from recent gigs for visual reference.

I have been thinking about this a lot the last couple days. I've decided I'm going to downsize my cabinets from the 410's to the Boss Katana 112. Then eventually I'll get a second 112 for outdoor gigs. It makes a lot of sense and I just needed that reality check. I appreciate the feedback it has been very helpful.

Weekly Wins
Learning things is cool. That's why we're here. Having an awesome support group along for the ride is just as important. Now that there are some lessons up, I thought it would be cool for anyone who had a win this week to share it. It can be that you got through a handful of lessons, or you had a solid practice with your band. No win is too small! I'll start. My band managed to book shows for every weekend in September. Usually we play over Labor Day, and then we are on break until after Christmas, so I am super stoked to be playing all month. What's your win?

My band got a text on Thursday asking if we wanted to play at a fundraiser on Saturday. They had another band lined up but there was a mix up on the date. We hadn't played together in a couple months and honestly I've been more focused on guitar in that time. But we took the gig and learned 3 new songs in those two days (oldies, to fit the demographic). We had a rehearsal Friday night, minus our lead singer (is that normal?) so my wife stepped in that role for the night. We had our gig and they gave us dinner. Was it a flawless gig? heck no! lots of mistakes on my end and lots learned. But we got invited back for next year, and we had someone ask if we'd play at their car show next summer!

Practice Space
I have a couple places where I practice. I have an Ampeg micro-VR and Zoom B6 set up in my office. This is where I'll learn songs usually. I can put sections of songs to loop and slow them down with Moises through my computer. Then in my basement I currently have a Boss Katana 500 running through a couple Seismic Audio 410's. I also have an Ampeg Venture V7, I switch between the two amps depending on how I'm feeling. Anyway, this is where we have band practice. My wife is very cool and doesn't mind the noise, she also plays keyboards and sings backup vocals in the band.

I’ve been playing bass since 2020. I’ve logged my progress with cover videos on YouTube. Finally got in a band this spring and that has been a blast.
