Do Our Hobbies Shape Who We Become?
I’ve been thinking a lot about how the things we do “just for fun” actually end up shaping our mindset, our patience, and even the way we handle life’s challenges. For example: Someone who gardens often learns patience and resilience. Someone who paints might see the world in colors, patterns, and emotions. Someone who plays chess sharpens strategy and long-term thinking. It makes me wonder… maybe our hobbies aren’t just hobbies. Maybe they’re the training ground for how we show up in life. 💭 What do you think has a hobby of yours ever changed you as a person or taught you a lesson you didn’t expect?

This is an interesting thought. I can't even answer this one. I have various interests but a master of none because I am not crafty at all. I haven't even finished anything I've started as far as other interests outside of crafting. I don't seem to be good at much of anything so now this really bothers me. I wonder if I have too many interests and I don't have the patience to learn one before I try to learn another one.

@Amy Ulen I like the way you phrased this. I will definitely try this idea! Thank you.
Sneak Peek: Workshops You’ll Love at the Art of Handmade Summit
The Art of Handmade Summit (Sept 15–18) is right around the corner, and the workshops we have lined up are seriously inspiring. This isn’t just about learning techniques — it’s about carving out time for yourself, trying something new, and connecting with others who “get” your love of making. Here’s just a little peek at what’s waiting for you: 🧵 For the sewists & quilters - A cozy quilt-as-you-go table runner you’ll actually finish (Jennifer Taylor) - Scrap-busting sewing projects that make your leftovers shine (Debbie Jenkins) 🧶 For the yarn lovers - Crochet a sweet little pumpkin in just one sitting (Kristine Racine) - Knit a cowl you’ll reach for all season long (Angela Palmer) 🎨 For paper & mixed media creatives - Handmade greeting cards that’ll have friends asking, “You made this?!” (Kristina Hunter) - Create a vision board that’s as beautiful as it is motivating (Susan Santoro) 💍 For jewelry makers - Learn wire-wrapping skills while making your own earrings (Melanie Hamann) - Beadwork basics you can master in an afternoon (Jessica Steele) ✍️ For creative souls - Turn journaling into an art form with a keepsake journal project (Lynne Blackman) - Relax into watercolor florals that feel like meditation with a brush (Kelly Cable) And honestly… that’s only scratching the surface. We’ve got 36 workshops total, each one designed to give you something fresh, fun, and do-able. 👉 I’d love to know: which of these workshops are you MOST excited to dive into? Drop it in the comments so we can cheer each other on!

Definitely the paper crafting, maybe something in the yarn lovers, and basically all of it!!
Now I'm ready to get my card making on.
Finally settled on the prototype for my 'acquaintance cards' for this year. Friends and family get more personalized cards.
