My first marathon was such an incredible experience! The first few miles were so hard because I was feeling like I didn’t belong there. Around mile 3, I settled in with the 4:00 pacer for a little while, then felt good and moved ahead. I saw my family around mile 12 and my daughter ran next to me for about 30 seconds which was so special. At the halfway point, I was feeling so strong and was on pace for a sub-4 finish. Around that time, the headwinds kicked in and really made the entire second half so much harder. Since it was my first marathon, I decided not to push myself too hard. I knew enjoying the day and feeling strong at the finish was more important. I took some walk breaks and really loved everything about this. My fuel timer went off at a mile and a half left, and I debated skipping the fuel since I was so close to the finish. @amanda_katzz and @runnergirldietitian popped into my head so I knew I needed to take it! That definitely helped me get to the finish feeling strong. (I also saw my family 2-3 other times before the finish line!) All in all, this was an incredible experience and I can’t wait until my next one!

Wednesday wins (happy april!! 🌸)
Happy April y’all! Let’s shoutout our wins from the week :). I love reading through these!! I’ve had a goal this training block to do most of my strength days at the gym (nothing wrong with at home strength - I just find I get a better quality workout when I go to the gym personally because it holds me more accountable for some reason 😂) So far I’ve made it 3 weeks in the gym! What’s your win this week? 👇

I’ve been struggling with getting my consistency back after my December marathon, but last week I made it back up to 30 miles per week for the first time this year! 🎉 Great job getting it done at the gym!!!

@Jill Shalley yesssss, so excited for you! Taper always really messes with my head, so just trust your training and take good care of yourself these last few days/weeks!
Friday Poll! 💦
What’s your typical hydration situation for long training runs? Feel free to comment why! I prefer a handheld flask to avoid stopping/chafing, & will supplement with a vest for my longest runs.

I carry a handheld amphipod bottle, but when the runs get longer than 2 hours in the summer I leave a second one on my steps to loop back around for!

If you always listen to music while running, try going on a handful of runs without audio during your training to practice tuning in! Before my first marathon, I’d always have something playing in my ears during training and I curated five different playlists for race day. When I hit mile 18 of the marathon I was so uncomfortable and my music was doing nothing for me - I kept flipping through songs trying to find something to help but nothing did. I was totally unequipped to deal with not responding to my music motivation! Practicing running without music made a huge difference for my subsequent races!
