Door knocking
Any one have any experience or successes in door knocking to land new clients. I have been thinking about hiring some sales people to door knock the neighborhoods we already have accounts in. The plan would be to offer free water tests with a spintouch so it’s a digital test and they don’t have any reason to doubt the results. And have a sales pitch from there. We are at 200 per month could offer a sign up deal or a Refferal program if they refer us to a neighbor. Was thinking to pay the knockers 200 per signed account. Let me hear any pros or cons and all of your recommendations!

@Chad Mull I tried door knocking and using Google maps to find pools. I never got an account that way. I also mailed a few thousand post cards, maybe my ad copy was off. All my accounts came from either Nextdoor, Yelp, or Facebook and many referrals from customers.
Billing Methodologies / 5 stops a month
Ok so it's end of month invoice time. In Skimmer I always look at the 'Profit" report to check my labor rates, # visits and chemical costs to see where I'm mostly winning and losing on some old accounts. Keep in mind I'm 4months into this biz so been heads down and growing and not thought thru everything yet :) Brings up a bigger question for me when I see 5 visits a month due to 5 Monday and Tuesdays like here in Sept. At 105 MRR stops now these things add up to considerable money. Monthly billing we think of 4 weeks a month but we know there's 52 weeks a year. How many of us have in our service agreements X number of weeks no service a year? How many do 4 week billing cycles (as I just heard a talk about that) Other methods? Or am I over thinking this?

Yeah Todd, I explain to my customers that there are some months with 5 weeks that I am not charging for, so that allows 4 weeks for vacations, sick days, or whatever. Most have no issues with it, but I have had some customers complain and I move them to weekly billing. It always works out because even when they pay me for 5 weeks, there will be a day I miss at some point that I will not charge for. And I always always always charge up front for my services unless they are weekly, and only then are they billed at the end of the month.

@Todd Larson Is your service rate $105 a month?
Premium Pricing with Filter Cleans Included?
What are your thoughts on positioning yourself as a truly "all inclusive" maintenance company? I.E. charge what you would normally end up getting throughout the year for 3 filter cleans but just bake it into your price. Chems, cleaning, and light maintenance all for one price of $XXX (filter cleans, other small maintenance items that should be done yearly or more). The good, the bad, and the ugly???

@Eli Kirlin Curious what direction you went in? I've thought about this as well. I would give people the option of the basic monthly service or basic monthly service plus. And filters usually need to be cleaned twice a year, so I would include only 2 cleans that way the customer cannot take advantage, unless of course the pool is in an area that would require more cleanings but then you can adjust your rate to meet that.

@Edmund Shahbazyan So true! I actually do all that and my customers love it!! I've grown 2 businesses all by word of mouth, thank God!! I wish we had more DE filters out here! haha I love those.
Thanks Ed
Thanks for all the valuable information you shared on zoom yesterday regarding the pool service industry.

Why Pool Service Is A GREAT Business Model!
Imagine a business with great profit margins, easy to learn, low barrier to entry, very scalable and the customers expect you back every week and pay you every month. That's the swimming pool service business. Its a Home Service Industry business and its based on a recurring revenue model. Meaning that the customers need your service every week. Also, there is the added bonus work of doing filter cleanings and repairs / new installs of swimming pool equipment. This type of business can also be year round in most of the southern United States. Even in the cold winter months in the South or West when people are not swimming, the pools need to be cleaned of leaves and debris and certain chemicals be maintained. Look at our Pool Millionaire course for the details.

So true!! Between my pool business stints, I did handyman work, painting, and real estate sales. All 3 of those is NOT recurring. You are prety much unemployed after each job and escrow close!! Pool service is the way!!
