Thoughts on this topic?
Hi everyone, Curious what the beach volleyball community thinks about this. I’ve been a lifelong 6v6 indoor player. Grew up in Northern Colorado. I’m also very short for volleyball (5'2) but still managed to get college paid for playing at a few smaller schools through this sport, which I’m super grateful for. Anyway… I might be moving to Florida and would love to get into beach. But I know being 5'2 and trained mostly on the court might make me kind of a wacky beach partner lol. Don’t both players usually need to be able to hit and play at the net? Or are there other ways? I’m not trying to play at some crazy high level, but I also don’t want to just play rec level either. What should someone like me focus on to become a solid sand player? How would you train if you were in my position? Guessing vertical would be the biggest focus but still unsure if at my age (25) I should even be looking at doubles sand. Maybe 4v4s? For context, I was a setter about 90% of my career and my last year of college I played libero. Alright… give it to me straight in the comments. 😅

Hey Cheyanne, I currently live in Florida and have been looking for groups as well. I found a group of people who are “good enough” but it’s a once a week thing. I like playing but I also want to join leagues like you’re saying. I personally love 4s. Where in Florida are you looking?
Question of the day
If you could instantly perfect one skill, which would it be?

Was struggling between jumping in sand and speed/agility. They both go hand in hand. For lunch today I had a turkey and pepper jack sandwich on sourdough bread with a chipotle aoli and mayo.
Tournament/ League Day Essentials
The one thing that I NEED for tournaments is a speaker and a good playlist. There is so much downtime between matches that good music goes a long way. A good speaker turns sitting and waiting around into a nice beach day!! What's one thing you bring to every tournament/league/ practice??

Plethora of drinks! I sweat like a fat pig. What songs do you choose from your playlist?
Beach volleyball down south.
Does anybody have any connections for BBVL similar leagues/groups to join up with or get in contact with in the south Florida region? (West Palm Beach specifically)

Beginner skills to master
What are the three major skills in Beach Volleyball that every beginner should try to master? Also, what are great drills and ways to practice them?

I always notice a difference after the first few times out and getting your feet and legs associated with the sand. I recommend spending time running and jumping around on the sand. Perhaps some go routes with the football.
