adult beginners
I'm looking for any suggestions for building confidence in an adult beginner swimmer. I have managed to get her to do a very nervous back float, and she has done a little streamline with a bit of a kick, but she struggles to return to vertical and just her confidence in general is not there. so, I'm looking for exercises we can do to build some confidence and get her more comfortable in the water. Any suggestions would be appreciated and if you have a video link even better. her next lesson in a day or two and I am just drawing a blank for new stuff to try.

@Kathy Welch we did it last year and this year. But Ron will be at the All Things Aquatics Event in Houston. And Makayla at the Kroc center plays it weekly. And Ron does it at a pool near him often.
Chris Stevenson
If you listen to this episode with Chris Stevenson, you’re going to walk away with a better understanding of what leadership actually looks like in real life. Not perfect leadership. Not textbook leadership. Real leadership. How to recognize your people, how to build stronger teams, how to separate yourself from the businesses that struggle, and how to keep growing as the person everyone else is looking to.https://open.spotify.com/episode/784lKBQupqXDN2lUEl0mmH?si=cH3dQquYRxGILGwfhTtApQ
I don’t usually get stumped in swim lessons.
Stuck? Yes.Paused? Absolutely. But stumped? Not often. Today, I had one of those lessons that made me stop, reflect, and really think through what was happening underneath the behavior. A young swimmer came to class with fear. Not refusal. Not defiance. Fear. He could stand on the steps. He could move along the wall.He could climb out. But the moment we left the steps, his body changed. That lesson reminded me that sometimes the skill is not the first thing we need to teach. Sometimes we need to ask: What is the child’s body telling us?Where does fear begin?Where does safety return? How do we help the swimmer recover without removing the challenge completely? I turned this lesson into a training resource for swim instructors because these are the moments where we grow. If you are creating staff training or need an in-service opportunity for your team, this is a strong one: Understanding the Fearful SwimmerA practical look at fear, regulation, safe zones, and what children communicate before they have the words to explain it.
I don’t usually get stumped in swim lessons.

@Melissa Irwin we did much much better day two, Saturday I went to their neighborhood pool and had success and today we kicked across the pool and my pool. I’ve never heard of Mermaid School, I’ll have to look it up.
Meredith King
Last night, Meredith King joined me as a guest on Navigating Neva, and this episode was special to me. I’ve been meeting with Wes for a long time, and I’ve had the chance to meet Meredith in person, but having her as a guest on my podcast felt really exciting. More importantly, Meredith is a gem. We are very similar in the way we approach swim lessons — thoughtful, intentional, and focused on meeting swimmers where they are. I loved getting to hear more of her story, her business journey, and how she teaches. If you work in aquatics, teach swim lessons, or just love hearing from people who care deeply about this work, you should listen to this episode. https://open.spotify.com/episode/2nVijg7qlGk11r7a6K8IqT?si=O1iOddZgT7ezoitZaUsV4A
