Hi
Hi everyone, I am just about to return to Australia (Byron Basy - Gold Coast) after being in the UK for 2 years. I have self-published 3 books and am looking to spend more time as a writer .. Looking forward to learning and connecting ..

@Adrian Hanks Welcome back, and congratulations on publishing three books already! That's a great achievement, especially while living abroad. It sounds like this next chapter is giving you the opportunity to spend more time doing what you enjoy. I'm sure you'll find plenty of great insights and connections here. Out of curiosity, what's the biggest goal you're hoping to achieve with your writing now that you're back in Australia?

@Adrian Hanks Welcome! It’s great to have you here. Congratulations on already self-publishing 3 books that’s a big milestone and shows real dedication to your writing journey. It’s exciting that you’re looking to spend more time as a writer and continue growing your work. Connecting with other authors and learning new approaches can open up a lot of opportunities. Out of curiosity, what type of books have you published, and what is the biggest goal you want to achieve with your writing next?

@Racheal Reid For me, it would be growing my readership. Writing and publishing are important, but helping the right readers discover your books is what turns them into a long-term author business. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's answers. It's always interesting to see where different authors are focusing their energy this year.

@Aj Love I think that’s a great focus. A lot of authors find that writing the book is only one part of the journey, and getting it in front of the right readers can be the bigger challenge. Building visibility and understanding your audience over time can make a huge difference. I’m curious, what marketing methods have you tried so far, and which one has helped you connect with readers the most?
Pre-release or not?
Just curious how you guys do it when self-publishing on KDP. Do you upload when ready and release immediately? Or, do you schedule your release? If scheduling, how long do you schedule it for? A month? Two months etc?

@Dan O'Riordan That's a great question. I think it really depends on the overall launch plan and what you're hoping to accomplish with the release. I've seen authors succeed with both approaches, but being intentional seems to matter more than whether it's an immediate release or a scheduled one. What made you start thinking about scheduling instead of publishing as soon as the book is ready?
Formatting Children's Books
First off, it's NOT the same as formatting a novel! With a novel, as long as you set the correct guidelines up front, all you really need to do is upload the text and everything will fall into place...for the most part. Not with children's books! There are so many moving parts when it comes to the design especially if the illustrator does not include the text in the picture. (TIP- if this is your first children's book, find an illustrator that will fully incorporate the text! This will save you time and money.) Are you formatting yourself? If so, what platform and tools are you using?

@Danielle Marietta I completely agree children's books are a different challenge altogether. There's so much more to think about than just placing text on a page. Every spread has to work visually as well as tell the story. I also think formatting is one of those skills that looks simple until you actually start doing it. Out of everything you've learned so far, what's the one formatting lesson you wish someone had told you before you started?

@Michael Teferi Congratulations on getting your books out there! It takes courage to keep creating and sharing your work. I like that you're continuing to build your author presence while staying focused on your long-term goal. Every author starts somewhere, and consistency goes a long way. You mentioned you're waiting to be discovered what do you think is the biggest thing standing between your books and more readers right now?
