1 Thing
Whenever I post an ‘ask me anything’ type question I always get questions starting with….What’s 1 thing… So today I turn the stage to you. What’s 1 thing that’s been helpful in your bookkeeping business?

@Sheila Watterson Consistency always pays off! I’m just starting to put myself out there to offer online bookkeeping, so hearing that your efforts are paying off is really motivating. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Upwork, and what platform are you mainly using to find work right now?

@Sheila Watterson That makes a lot of sense! Going local helps you build more personal and solid relationships in your community right from the start. Wishing you continued success with your business.

🚨 The Number That Changed Everything 🚨
One of my students, "Dani" (not her real name), had a breakthrough that completely changed the way she looked at building her bookkeeping business. She stopped thinking about "getting clients" and started thinking about building a business. When she realized that 25 monthly bookkeeping clients = a full-time bookkeeping practice, everything clicked. 💡 Suddenly there was a clear goal. ✅ A target. ✅ A roadmap. ✅ A finish line to run toward. Let's do the math... 📊 25 clients × $350/month = $8,750 per month 💰 That's $105,000+ per year in recurring revenue! And here's the best part...you don't need hundreds of clients. You don't need to go viral. You don't need a huge team. In fact you don't even need a team at all! You just need 25 businesses who trust you to take bookkeeping off their plate. Big goals become much less intimidating when you know the number you're aiming for. So...welcome to the 💯 $100K Bookkeeper Club! 🙋‍♀️ Who's next? Drop "ME!" in the comments if you're working toward your first 25 clients! 🐝🎉

ME! Breaking down the goal into clear numbers makes it so much more achievable. Thanks for the inspiration
What’s 1 thing that’s holding you back?
So I’m curious. What’s the one thing holding you back from starting a business that can give you & your family real freedom?

honestly, I'm 100% ready to execute and put in the work, but the main challenge right now is securing that first solid opportunity or initial project to build momentum. with a strong background in financial management and bookkeeping, I know I can bring immediate value to a business—I just need the right door to open. open to starting with small initial tasks or projects

@Melissa Broughton You're absolutely right, narrowing down a niche makes perfect sense! My experience so far has been strictly in traditional, offline roles, so I'm just starting to navigate the online space. Taking your advice, I'm going to focus my bookkeeping services on startups. Since I'm currently in the building phase and eager to gain online experience, I'm completely open to volunteering or taking on a free trial project to prove my value. If you happen to cross paths with any startup founders who could use a reliable hand with their books, I’d be incredibly grateful for a connection!
Expenses paid on a personal card
For expenses paid on a personal card: Is there a way to apply it to any excess owner draw/owner pay taken from the same year? For example, buying fuel for a vehicle. I want to make sure the expense goes in the fuel category, but can I create a JE to also pull from the owner draw account?

@Melissa Broughton Great suggestion, Melissa. I completely agree with this approach. It’s a very practical and efficient workaround that simplifies tracking out-of-pocket expenses and keeps the reconciliation process clean and straightforward."
