Swap outs!
Question for the group! Customer books a 7-day rental. Fills it up early and needs another. How are you handling these?

I agree with the others. It's a new rental from us. I have changed how I explain my rental time from saying "7-day rentals" to now saying "up to 7 days." I also let them know that if they finish early, we will be happy to come get it out of the way for them. I found that so many times customers told me that they finished the task a day or so before, and it just sat when I could have used it for the next rental or possibly scheduled it better in the route of the day.
Pricing Help
Hello to my fellow dumpster runners. I need some advice. I am fairly new in this industry and I have a contractor that reached out asking for two 20 yard dumpsters on a job site for roughly two months and each dumpster will likely need swapped out every other day. I need help quoting this for both monthly rate and swap/dump fees. I would be hauling roughly 15 miles one way to dump each container. I also don't have much inventory so this will tie up two dumpsters during this time that could have multiple rentals each month. I am considering purchasing more dumpsters so I can accommodate but really need some expert advice from some of you veterans. Thanks in advance.

For us, I have tried a few different ways of handling this request. Starting out, I would give discounts, offer free days, and include extra tonnage to contractors, thinking that would make them loyal to me. In hindsight, I only lost money! Price yourself fairly and kill the service end. Your model has to work for you. If you only have a few dumpsters, you can't afford to have them tied down for long at one site. I would only add dumpsters when the calls are outnumbering your count. Slow and steady will keep you from going under. I would offer exchanges every other day instead of dropping two. That way, you will keep his job moving and have something available for the next customer when they call. It will also give you the ability to run loaded as much as possible, increasing your exposure when the dumpster is on your truck for new customers to see you. Unloaded or loaded, these things seem to get the same fuel mileage, so keep the billboard rolling. Most contractors are not used to this level of service from a dumpster company. Loyalty comes with consistency.

We had a fantastic time at the expo, TONS of great networking and some excellent takeaways from the guest speakers. They shared insights you can apply directly to your business to make a real impact. If you couldn’t make the expo, I’d definitely encourage you to catch the next one, AND don't sleep on the upcoming Dumpster Runners Network - Spring Training that @Joseph Maxey is putting together. He wouldn’t spill the details, but he did say with a big grin that some big things are in the works!
Will a CRM help my Dumpster Business make money through Efficiency?
I hear people asking all the time... Should I get a CRM? Whats the right number of cans to have before I get one? Is it worth it when I only have 3 dumpsters? Which program to use? Today we answer those questions. A CRM can be a highly valuable tool, but it could also be a big waste of money if you're not able to use it to it's potential. Lets dive into some nuance around those questions. If you'd like to schedule a demo with Docket FOR FREE... It would help me and my family if you used my link. šŸš€ https://www.yourdocket.com/maxco-dumpsters/ Thanks

🪨 Marketing Strategies - BRANDING
Finding ways to get your name out there is KEY. We live in a new world with social media. Never before have you been able to get your brand in front of so many people for $0 - but sometimes free comes at a cost. When something is free it by definition is also less valuable. Your competitors are probably posting in the same places. Doing mostly the same thing. Remember - while there is a skill and difference between drivers and companies, if your potential customer ONLY sees a picture of a dumpster in the driveway, then there is 0 difference between what you do from the next guy. That is where BRAND comes in to play. Lets imagine 2 separate companies competing for attention in the same market. Company A and B both post a picture of the dumpster they just dropped every day. What sets them apart? Does one have a generic white truck and the other has a highly branded wrapped one? Does one wear uniforms and the other doesn't? Does one have a driver with a huge smile having fun while he works while the other is a heavy set grumpy looking man with ketchup in his beard? The answer is obvious - you can compete on PRICE or you can compete on VALUE. If it's price then you can be the generic truck, non uniformed, heavy set grumpy man with ketchup in his beard and it won't matter. If on the other hand you want to make a PROFIT, then I would highly suggest you focus on the brand differentiator. BRAND is the thing that can 2x, 3x, 4, 5x, your ad spend. BRAND is the thing that changes your phone calls from "How much?" to "When can you be here?" I good brand does the heavy lifting for you. Once it's well established everything becomes a bit easier. So what is BRAND? How does one create a brand? Is it colors on a uniform? Is it stickers on a truck? The word brand comes from the cattle industry. It is the hot iron seared into the skin of cattle to identify which ranch they belong to. I can't speak from everyone, but I am grateful that I don't need a hot iron pressed into my skin to do "branding" for my company in 2025.

@Clay Lane I think one of the best things I did was change our color to something different than everyone else around my area. We always hear the same about the color and how clean they are.
