What oxide do you think this is?
I would really like to try and stencil a crow on a mug and thought a black oxide or just manganese could look nice? And wax resist over the crow, then mayco birch over the whole mug. Has anyone else tried anything similar? This link is from @leelapottery https://www.instagram.com/p/DUFnM2QjGWS/?img_index=5&igsh=MWc5bTAyanczeXVreA==

@Mary Carolyn surely in the much colder climates their houses must be more insulated then my old cottage and pottery 🤣 x

@Mystie Richards l think it’s Lava glaze which I have never tried, so the vinegar would give it a similar texture I suppose 😊 Very cool… Thank you Mystie I will have to experiment.
One Last Project Before Antarctica ❄️☕
Before heading to Antarctica, I managed to finish one last project today.☕️☕️☕️ It started as an idea last Saturday and came together surprisingly fast. On Sunday, a friend and I hand-built ten cups and added our gym’s logo. On Monday, I threw a few more cups, trying to match the same size — again with our gym logo. After that, the usual rhythm followed: drying, bisque firing on Thursday, unloading on Friday, sanding and glazing, loading the kiln again on Saturday — and today I finally unloaded them so I could bring them to the gym to be used for coffee.🔥 Even though I worked with the same reference and the same stencil, every cup turned out a little different. Because of that, I decided to glaze them in 15 different shades of blue. Not every blue came out truly blue — the differences are pretty striking.💙🔷🔵🩵🌀 I’ll show this in more detail in my kiln loading/unloading video. I’m not sure yet when it’ll be edited and uploaded — maybe Tuesday, before I leave. What’s your first impression?

Staying warm inside
Spent the afternoon attaching handles and doing a little carved designs into some mugs I threw a few days ago. Woot woot. Feels good to get them done but most importantly, it feels good to do something creative and getting back into clay. Happy Saturday!!!

When Winter Lingers, Flowers Move In 🌷
Outside, there is still snow on the ground, but inside my home, winter has quietly made room for spring. My Christmas decorations are packed away, and instead, I’ve started surrounding myself with flowers.💐 Tulips are my absolute favorites. 🌷I simply love them. Years ago, I once counted around 2,000 tulips blooming in my garden. But living right next to open fields has its challenges — field hamsters and mice discovered the bulbs, and little by little, they disappeared. Each year, there are fewer tulips growing outside. So now, I bring them indoors. Fresh tulips on my table make me smile and remind me that spring is on its way, even when winter hasn’t fully let go yet.✨🌱🌷 Besides tulips, I deeply love the scent of lily of the valley. Their fragrance always reminds me of my grandmother and brings back so many warm memories. If I were ever to get married again, my wedding bouquet would be made of nothing but lily of the valley 🤍 And now I’m curious about you: Which flowers do you love the most? Which ones make you smile, bring back memories, or simply make your day a little brighter? I’m looking forward to your answers 🌸

@Linda Robertson hi Linda I love both glazes and over lapping makes it even more special, plus only having to paint on two layers of each colour 😊
