Good point! I tried to edit this poll with no luck, but I'll definitely run a similar poll again.
Does your vision for your flourishing differ from your child's?
What is your vision for yourself? What is your vision for your child? Are they different? If so, why?

@Gavin Layacono Thank you for that thoughtful response. I find that my ambition for my daughter (she's nine) is in some ways greater for her than for myself. I want to expose her to great literature and human, so that she has a "menu" of characters from which she can choose to fashion her soul, and art to bolster her spirit (e.g. "What would Matilda do?"). I want her to feel good at writing and mathematics so that she can make logical connections between ideas and clearly articulate and refine her thinking. I want her to be able to rebuild the inventions and experiments of great scientists, so that she is observant (e.g., "The oven is emitting a funky smell") and good at solving the problems of her own life. I want to her to meet the heroes of the past and get to know how different they were (Darwin, the bright under-achiever; Mendel, the shy man who battled depression; Leeuwenhoek, the eccentric grocer). I want to arm her with the conviction that anybody can make a monumental discovery that improves the human condition. Most of the time, my ambition for myself is to get through my daily to-do list. I wonder if others have disparate ambitions for themselves and their kids?
What does an "educated young person" look like to you?
What is your vision for your child's educational outcome. By the time they graduate high school, what are you hoping they have achieved in terms of knowledge/behaviors/accomplishments?

Thank you for your thoughtful answer! I have a bunch of follow-up questions. To start: what should the process of education look like to best promote the outcome you described?
Your Definite Purpose
"All success begins with definiteness of purpose, with a clear picture in your mind of precisely what you want in life." - Napoleon Hill Hey Everyone!!! I hope you're doing great today. I wanted to jump in and bring up question that I believe is the key to unlocking your success in any area of your life. It's what Napoleon Hill would call your "Definite Purpose." I posted a video below from me talking about discovering your Definite Purpose. Step #1 - Please take 2 minutes and watch the video right now Step #2 - Take some time to write out your Definite Purpose, and post it in the comments below. Step #3 - Read other people's Definite Purposes, and drop them some feedback and encouragement! Thanks everyone!! Russell Brunson P.S. - Here are some other AMAZING related Napoleon Hill quotes to help inspire your as you define your definite purpose: =========== "I don’t know why it is that when a man decides what he wants, the whole universe seems to come to his aid to see that he gets it." - Napoleon Hill =========== "The principle of psychology through which you can impress your definite chief aim upon your subconscious mind is called Autosuggestion, or suggestion which you repeatedly make to yourself. It is a degree of self-hypnotism…" - Napoleon Hill =========== "There is no hope of success for the person who does not have a central purpose, or definite goal at which to aim. Ninety-eight out of every hundred of those whom I have analyzed, had no such aim. Perhaps this was the major cause of their failure." - Napoleon Hill =========== "Set your mind on a definite goal and observe how quickly the world stands aside to let you pass." - Napoleon Hill =========== "There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought." - Napoleon Hill =========== "Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything." - Napoleon Hill

I, DrMommy, am going to fix science for the next generation. When science it taught like revelations (here are Newton's Laws of motion; memorize the formulae), it's not surprising that scientists today regard observation as unimportant, and that non-scientists often approach new advancements (mRNA vaccines and cancer immunotherapy) with skepticism and revulsion rather than curiosity. I'm going to walk students through the historical discoveries, have them build the inventions that offered new observations, and perform the experiments that informed our knowledge today. Whether or not they become scientists, my students will be able to observe their world with the reverence of Aristotle, Vesalius, and Linneaus. They will be empowered solve their problems the way Redi, Darwin, Mendel, Pasteur and Koch did.

@Horacio Galdamez I'm interested in the convergence of AI and pedagogy. I'd like to know what teaching methods and lessons cause the "light bulb moment" in children.
