I am currently studying for the NPL Master Qualification. It’s on a whole different level to the Practitioner, I have been learning lots. Last week we were studying Meta Programs and how we process things. I have long considered myself to be a bit Nero spicey. My kids came to me years ago with the "we are ADHD and we got it from you!" Apparently, it’s hereditary! When they presented their evidence, I had to agree that had me bang to rights. Yes, I do set out to weed the flower border and then find I am pruning a tree on the other side of the garden. Or I am going to clean and tide the lounge, only to find somehow, I have ended up scrubbing the toilet. Yes, I do struggle to stay on task! So last week I had a co-working session with good friend and buddy @Gemma Coles. I told her I needed to be more focus at work and that I jump from one thing to another and find I have fifteen tabs open at once! Anyone else do this??? She taught me about time blocking. I know she does this easily, I have always admired this trat of hers. So, I bought a new diary (Steven Bartletts 1% Diary, which is awesome!) and set about mastering this new time blocking skill. So back to the NLP and last week’s learnings, yep, a spicy switch! The basic meta programmes align with the four major elements of NLP. The major elements of NLP are the persons: External behaviour – is what they do. Internal process – how they do it. Internal State - determines why somebody does something. What if over time - answers the question, what would happen if they did. Still with me? Now each of these basic meta programmes isn’t a dichotomy; there is a continuum from two extremes. With meta programmes, we ask one question, and then we use our own subjectivity to determine where the person is on the continuum from their answers. The questions are designed to take somebody out to the extreme. Here is where it gets interesting, as I started to read and digest this subject I knew exactly where I sat. Ask yourself these questions, there is no right or wrong answer.
