Music Production 101
Just completed Music Production 101 Mastering. My first attempt at Mastering Music. With the training provided it went well. I felt that it sounded better than any other attempts at Mastering. Overall, I feel I had a good success. If anyone is just starting this maybe we could compare notes and how you felt about the course. I still need to purchase a camera for my computer. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestion on a good pair of headphones? I was looking at the VSX from slate but was unsure if that is what a beginner really needs. Happy Mixing all. That is where I am headed next to studyšŸŽ§.

@Steve Dunn my only other suggestion is. Save your work. Go to as many of the mentor calls (When they figure out how to let you see when mentors are booked in Skool). You will learn a whole load more in 6-7 months of actually listening to others work and mentors comment. Make music and then mix and master it, Then try am make it even better. After doing this for the 6-7 months the. Come back to the 101 and do it all over again. Then compare your work to what you’ve just done today and saved. You will see improvements you didn’t even know were possible. Learning is an evolution and you don’t know what you don’t know. After watching for long enough you can start to appreciate the subtleties and expand your understanding so you know what you now need to learn so you can continuously grow

I just have to chuckle to myself at the disparity between headphones and web cameras. The side that with the web camera it doesn't really matter if the colour is correct or the lighting shown is at all accurate. The resolution is inconsequential. Yet when to come to the the side of headphones there is vast opinions to get that accuracy down to the third decimal place. It's the question of when recording sound what is right? So for example: if I went and recorded an artist, I choose the type of microphone and its placement. I control the processing of this sound as it travels through my system. Inside the DAW I control the amplification and equalization along with sound modification plugins. The whole of this mix is now controlled and effected by the speakers output (be it studio monitors or headphones) and my hearing of those sounds. It is my job to produce the best possible sound. Then there is the flip side. I hand off this "perfect" recording to 100 people. Of those 70% play this recording through a $50 bluetooth speaker that clips the bass, boosts the lowest parts of the mid bass to compensate, and can't reproduce the highs. So what those 70 people listen to is no where near to what I heard and mixed and mastered. of the remaining 30 people, twenty have an actual stereo that can moderately reproduce the sound, nine can mostly reproduce the sound and there is one person who has good enough equipment to almost reproduce what I heard, There is the thought that it's not your job to dictate what the people who listen actually hear and if they can't be bothered enough to use even remotely good equipment then its not your fault. but the people who are using this sub standard equipment could get far better sounding reproduction if the mix/master was made for their class/quality of equipment but then it would be at the expense of the few who own far better. If we are saying there is a large enough disparity of sound quality between a pair of ATH-50x vs DT1990 vs NDH30 vs Ollo X1, then who is to say what one is correct in sound and when you are mastering to a reference, did the engineer making that track use the same speakers or headphones that you are using so is the disparity already baked into the reference track you are using?
Anyone in the GTA (Toronto ON) looking for a midi keyboard
I have to clean up and stop holding onto stuff I don't use any more.. I have an older still working fine Novation Launchkey 49 v1 (it could be a v2). I don't need it and have been told that it must go. I'd rather give it to someone who might actually use it, than just toss it into the dark oblivion of the city dump. I have unregistered it from Novation and it all ready for a new owner. You will get all the free software that usually comes with the keyboard. If you are even remotely interested and want a photo of it, just message me or replay to this. It's in the box right now and I'm being a bit lazy to just go downstairs with a camera and take the photo. But will if someone really wants one. Posted on Dec 7 - 2025. if nobody wants it by Christmas then I'll likely just take it to it's demise in the new year, Just posting here just incase someone wants it.

Unpopular (Audio) Opinions
Kevin McCloskey posted this in The Reverse Engineer community and it was a super interesting thread... so posting here too! Comment below with you biggest unpopular audio opinions... don't hold back 😈 I'll start with a couple: 1) Most gear preferences in the industry are baseless and random. People just follow the crowd and are easily influenced into think things sound "better". 2) Seemingly in contrast to the above... anything other than an SM57 on a snare is a waste of time. We're so used to this sound that it immediately sounds "right" to us.

You need to use XX or YY daw and or plugins to make professional sounding music. The person using the DAW or Plugin makes far more of a difference than the actual software PERIOD. MIKE DROP.
Day 3 Replay is now available in the Classroom!
Today we talked about how to be a successful artist! Enjoy!

@MooN Anas maybe when the winter is over I will drive around to your side of the lake and visit. I remember when that was a 20min trip.. but now with the trucks and traffic it’s a good 1 plus on a good day
