Head off
Hi, I’d like to talk about what’s going on in my head. When I start new things, I feel like my body does what it’s supposed to do, but my mind kind of switches off in that moment. For example: I’m riding sideways onto a box, my mind is switched on just before the obstacle, then it switches off and turns back on only after I jump off the obstacle. My body knows what to do and usually does everything right.

Your problem is 👉🏻 Post-landing cognitive noise 🧠💥 This is NOT a mistake — it’s normal - some of us "suffer" more from this phenomena, some less. I will give you some actionable tips and tools down here to work with. This is what goes on in your head: Speed, commitment, expected airtime or a new move all these cause narrowed attention. When you drop in, your nervous system prioritizes: - balance - threat management - timing and coordination NOT your MEMORY 👇🏻 That arousal wipes short-term memory / recall capability 🥸 This happens also with extreme positive emotional overload, not only negative!!!! Thats why I used the word "arousal" and not "fear" as some could expect! Right after landing, your brain is busy with: - “Am I safe?” - “Was that clean?” - emotional response (relief / frustration / happiness) This overwrites the fragile memory trace of technical details within seconds. If you don’t catch it immediately → it’s gone. Solution: Ask the question you have WITHIN 3–5 seconds after action These questions can be something like: 👉🏻 did I make that unnecessary speedcheck again or not? -> Thats the classics by the way 👉🏻 did I reach for a grab too early this time? 👉🏻 did I start from a higher spot as I planned or did I forget again? 👉🏻 what the f_ _k did I actually do? Answer them before: - looking uphill - talking - emotionally judging Literally land → glide → ask internally: “Brake: yes or no?” Delay = loss. Remember what I taught you here, use the knowledge and it will get better Petra 🤘🏻 ------------ Until here I just scratched the surface -> Bellow I will describe how I work with this phenomena which Petra experiences. if you are a freak who just needs to know more than you probably need 👉🏻 like me👈🏻 dive deeper bellow 🤿 lets get a bit more scientific ⚗️and learn about brain a bit 🧬 Post-landing cognitive noise is a procedural / implicit control problem. The responsible parts of our brain for this are called basal ganglia + cerebellum.

@Petra Slaharova This a great question💥 - I call this - Post Landing Cognitive Noise 🧠🤯 Because it is one of the most common problems in action sports, I will go super deep in a reply lower down. For now, just chill, this is normal. I usd o not remember if I grabbed a mute or japan after I stopped at the bottom of a run 🤣
Footbeds
Hi everyone, I’m Manolis and I just joined the community. I had a question about footbeds and boot fit. I’ve actually never used footbeds before. I’ve always skied with just the boot as it came. Recently, though, I realized that my heel is lifting, especially when I’m flexing forward or when i try to ski switch (on the outside ski). I’m wondering whether getting custom footbeds would be a good step to improve heel retention and/or my general skiing experience. Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Help with a back 2
I’ve been able to get front 2s occasionally but really struggle with a back 2. Here are two attempts. Any suggestions?

@Ian Connelly 🧨 🥸 I asked because just today I was throwing bs2s end they were so much easier to stomp clean when jibbed my unnaty foot forward only because then the spin was my natural way of spinning (left) 👈🏻 How comfortable are you jibbing left foot forward? ...

@Ian Connelly I just realised after reading your post, that I only hit rails unnaty when the plan is backside 2 out or when I coach and I want to show exactly hot shit's done 😁 I never really enjoyed it - but I definately do enjoy a clean back2 or when skiers who see me as an inspiration dont notice that I too have to concentrate sooo hard even when I "just slide the other foot forward" It is good for us to step out of our comfort zones I guess. That contrast between struggle at the beginning and happines once stuff starts working is necessary. I think that realising this is one of reasons why I will never keep pushing and learning.

This is so gooood Chels! I am falling in love with Skool
Hey, I’m Maurie
Thanks Lukas and Chelsea for creating this forum. There are already so many good tips in the chats! I’m a life long skier and mom to two boys ages 9& 12. I love to ride the mountain, and find natural features to catch little airs. I’m new to park features- I can 50/50 boxes popping on and off but can’t figure out how to slide 90*. I know I spin right but I can’t seem to find the technique or guts to jump to 90 on boxes. I’m comfy jumping to 90 on snow and good with my board slides on snow, but can’t translate that to the boxes. And I want to slide metal but can’t wrap my brain around that one I feel until I can jump to 90 on a box… Any tips?

Hi Maurie, it feels great to see you joining so soon after we started 🤩 You are at the right place if shredding the entire mountain is your thing 👍🏼 Your Freeski Hub is not going to be about park tricks only at all - searching for natural features is my favourite thing to do when skiing 🤘 About your jibbing. What do you think about this 👉🏻 you let one of your sons record a shot or two of you on a box 👉🏻 you will let go off those "I suck so much" feelings when you look at it 👉🏻 you upload it to our Video Analysis chat That way not just you can learn from our conversation but also many more other rad ski mums and dads
