On Primal Forge GPT 🔥
This AI scriptwriting tool being included in the Premium membership (along with access to live workshop recordings and a couple other modules) is a huge plus. Over the weekend, I asked P F GPT questions like: “Can you give me an exercise to help refine my logline?” “What type of plot points am I allowed to reveal without spoiling the story to other writers who review my work?” “Do you also go by the name Forgie?” Each time, Forgie gave me thorough answers—The Writer’s Forge style. I do think that the GPT is promising in that it generates templates, provides examples, and ends each response with a question/prompt. This leaves the interaction open-ended, actionable, and potentially perpetual. In terms of feeding Forgie my logline or script for review, I’m a bit hesitant because I really don’t know what the cons are (if there are any). So I’d love to hear anyone’s thought process and/or experience re: sharing their work with the GPT or scriptwriting-specific AI platforms! 🙏

I'm speaking at a screenwriting conference this weekend. If you want tix, hmm below.
I'm one of the keynote speakers at Allegory Live. I'm going to be taking the Wound, The Lie and The Small life that I teach in workshops here. If you'd like to attend, one of our members who put this together has made a couple of tickets available. HMU here or DM me if you'd like to come. First come first serve. Thx. D

That moment when “I’m likely going to be sick that day” is true 🥲. Cheers regardless! 🎉
🚨 ScriptReader Beta is live. First 50 in. Go.
Apple just approved it. This is the moment. Here's what ScriptReader does: it performs your screenplay aloud to you. Your characters. Your dialogue. Your scenes. With distinct voices for every role. You stop reading your script and start hearing it — which means you catch what your eye skips right over. I built this for you. For us. And right now, the beta is open. First 50 people get to try it free. That's it. No waitlist after that. Here's all you do: Step 1 — Download TestFlight. It's Apple's free beta testing app (iOS only — Android coming later.). Takes 30 seconds. → https://apps.apple.com/us/app/testflight/id899247664 Step 2 — Once TestFlight is on your phone, tap this link to join the beta: → https://testflight.apple.com/join/BVXKtFRD You get 30 minutes free. Use every second. Then come back and tell me everything — good, bad, whatever you actually think. That's the deal if you're one of the 50 who downloads. That feedback shapes what this becomes. Also, these 3 questions are hugely important: 1. Did it work? Could you get your script in and hear it play back without hitting a wall? Yes or no — and if no, where did it break? 2. What surprised you? Good or bad. What did you learn about your script? 3. Would you pay for this? Based on what this cost me, I cannot give this away for free. So if yes, what's a fair monthly price? The link is live. The clock is running. Don't download unless you're committed to giving feedback. If you are, comment: 🔥 below. And let's get to work! Go. 🎬 Edit: there are def some spacing issues with how it differentiates between characters and action. They sometimes run together. This is something I’m addressing in the next build. This build is more about… does it work at all. And don’t forget to try the Forge Analysis and see how that reads.

🔥i tried it out with a BETA script lol Preface: i didn't use a screenplay writing app so, could be why the formatting changed a bit? I'm unsure. I'd say though, that the app loaded the script with about 85% accuracy. But it added an extra character/voice. There were only supposed to be two, plus narrator. At times, it would catch the stutters and say them. I'd say 8/10 times it didn't read out the intentional speech mannerisms. The voices do have emotion and relatively good enunciation though! In terms of the Forgie feature, well it was pretty comprehensive and organized with the wound, lie, etc. framework/s. I'm on the fence about feeding scripts to AI in general. I still thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback. I actually have more observations about P F GPT (non-script related, but more so re: how it helps give info+insights, The Writer's Forge style) as it has potential. Interesting so far!🤔

What initially drew you to writing and, then, the community? I’ve been a songwriter for nearly 30 years, so writing is something that I've developed and grown over the years and now comes naturally to me. I was always curious about screenwriting but didn’t give it a go until about two years ago when I started making short films with a friend. We made three shorts in about 6 months and after that I was hooked. By the time I came across David’s ad for The Writer’s Forge on FB, I had been working on an episodic for about a year and feeling quite stuck. I was drawn to David’s humor and credentials, so I checked it out and within a couple days of joining the community I found myself shakin’ like a wet dog in the hot seat of a new member coaching call. That initial terror was short lived, because the feedback and notes I got from David on that first call changed everything for me as a writer. He helped me to see exactly what I needed to do to level up my writing and make my script sing in the first two pages. And paired with the amazing community of other writers from around the world who are in the same boat, but also there to give support, suggestions, and encouragement, it just doesn’t get better than that. What are some of your passions or hobbies? I’m passionate about writing, songwriting, and singing. I still perform with my Americana band when I’m in the US and I currently perform with a jazz choir, along with my teenage son, in our hometown of Setúbal, Portugal. I’m an avid traveler having visited 34 countries so far. I also enjoy baking fruit pies and pastries for my family. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this field/community? Do not underestimate the power of community. Especially when it comes to writing or the arts in general. The Writing Forge community has been an incredible inspiration and motivation for me to want to keep going and keep improving. And don’t be afraid to be the novice in a room of experts. Learn from them. Be curious. Do what you love and the rest will come.

@Anna Fermin it’s great that you know these by names/by heart, especially the colorful dots painting! I took art+art history long agoooo, but I definitely love and remember that one by face 🥰

@Anna Fermin if I too had to pick a non-painting piece, I actually would’ve chosen smthing non-pop and quite personal. A nostalgic item I still keep on the wall:
