Stem Question For The Technical Experts Here
Hey guys - I'm still a novice at this whole sync thing and in the middle of bouncing stems for a project and have a technical question. The stem headroom should be between 3-4db minimum un-mastered. Do you all look at that as the TOP range of headroom for a track? On the drum stem, for example, it's going to increase in volume going into a new section and then maybe drop out for a verse to give it some breathing room. So am I looking to reach the 3-4db at the loudest part? Or are a few peaks above that range OK if the majority of the track doesn't exceed it?

Ideally -6dB to -4dB at the highest peak that gives the mastering engineer plenty of head room to work with

What’s your goal with this track ?

@Kee Crossland What’s your aim for this track? Oftentimes, the struggle lies in not having a clear direction. I’d recommend using a reference track always. It helps you see if what you’re trying to achieve sonically and the direction that’s actually being achieved. This track, for example, is really good the sound selection is solid ,but it doesn’t have a clear direction where is going, feels like a loop somehow like lobby music. Was that your aim ?
Welcome to PTN EA – Classroom Overview
I’m fortunate to spend my time, amongst other things, teaching workshops, running one-on-one coaching, and working directly with creators who want to grow in visual media. PTN EA - is my way of bringing that same experience to a wider circle - my communities - in a way that’s structured, ongoing, and built to last. Every course here is designed to pull back the curtain on how music really works in picture - from concept to delivery - and give you tools you can apply to your own work immediately. ---- JUST in case you are new here, you can find a bit more about ME HERE <--------- -- We will start to run two tiers side-by-side: Pulse Tier (Free) Your open-access starting point. Core lessons, examples, and exercises you can use right away. A clear view of the process, the concepts, and the mindset that drive successful work in visual media. Broadcast Tier (Premium) Coming soon For serious creators ready to level up. Broadcast takes the same topics you see in Pulse and goes in-depth: full creative workflows, real briefs, case studies, feedback loops, and live working sessions. A mix of academia and industry experience, aimed at preparing you to work at a professional level. When Broadcast launches, every new course will drop in both tiers at the same time -- Pulse for the essentials, -- Broadcast for the complete system. --- Visual Media 101 — Pulse vs Broadcast (What’s the difference, why it exists, and how to try both) --- Both modules are live now: - PULSE - BROADCAST (Preview) While we’re building Broadcast, you can preview it here through selected modules and lessons. Think of it as a window into the deeper training, collaborations, and project opportunities that will roll out in the premium tier.

PTN INSIDER REPORT 003 / The Piano Roll is Back / August 8, 2025
AI is entering sync, fast. But this isn’t a breakthrough. It’s a rerun. The real innovation is knowing history - and building what AI still can’t. - 📍 1. CONTEXT / INDUSTRY SHIFT There’s a new player in sync - and it’s not human. ElevenLabs, best known for voice cloning, just launched a text-to-music engine. But what makes this different isn’t just the tech. It’s the partnerships. They inked deals with Kobalt and Merlin, giving them access to real music catalogs. The machine isn’t inventing from scratch. It’s composing from human DNA. They say it’s not copying. But it’s trained on our fingerprints. This isn’t innovation. It’s iteration - with a new face. And it’s happened before. In 1908, player pianos started replacing musicians with punched paper rolls. The Supreme Court said it wasn’t a copy - because a human couldn’t read it. Composers got nothing. That moment triggered a legal uprising. Congress passed the 1909 Copyright Act. Now, the Piano Roll is back. But this time, it’s digital, trained on your catalog, and disguised as “original.” - 📂 2. CASE FOCUS / BREAKDOWN Here’s what this looks like in real time: • ElevenLabs + Merlin + Kobalt: launched a sync-ready AI music model trained on licensed catalogs, but with no visible creator involvement or opt-out system. • WSJ confirmed the output is cleared for commercial use - music for TV, trailers, ads, and more. Their Terms say: no prompts using artist names or lyrics, but no mention of creator oversight. • Reddit feedback is split: “audio sounds insane” but “feels like we’re handing over the keys to the car.” Creators are impressed - and nervous. • 1908: Supreme Court ruled piano rolls weren’t copies. Payouts vanished. Congress responded with mechanical licensing in 1909 - the first fightback for creators against machine-made music. This isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about pattern recognition. History is looping - and creators still aren’t in the room. - 📈 3. STRATEGY OR BUSINESS PRINCIPLE

AI can definitely feel more like a threat than a friend to us creators though but no matter how advanced it gets, it can’t replace real human emotion or the imperfections that come with it our emotion come from within deep in our souls. That’s where the magic is. There’s a reason AI needs humans. As creative composers, we’ll always shine in the areas it can’t replicate. So instead of fearing it, use it. Grow with it. Let it be a tool, not a takeover. Thank you for this amazing report brother!!!

@Gilde Flores Yes! I like how you said that! Our currency our most valuable asset is the human residue we have, AI cannot replicate what’s not written yet or how is written. Sure AI can replicate a random story . But never were the main story comes from, leads, its destination, where stops to take a breath or where it ends… our emotional depth, our intuition, our ability to find meaning where there’s nothing written yet. All of those things are embedded in raw human emotion our struggles is what Create stories the “why” AI cannot replicate . That’s the currency we should always protect. Only we carry OUR SOUL…
🎙️ WELCOME TO PTN PULSE
You didn’t just join a group. You stepped into a system. One that’s built by results, not recycled advice. The Frontline of a Bigger System First off, this is not just a Skool group. You’re entering the first level of a living, working ecosystem built from the inside out—by a composer who has delivered on Super Bowl spots, Marvel properties, global campaigns, and thousands of real-world placements. This space isn’t theory. It’s not built on recycled advice. THIS is built on 18+ years of scars, strategy, and sustained results. PTN is not just a production company. It’s a broadcast. A movement. A system. 🔴 Why This Exists: The industry was never built for people like us. It rewards connections over craft, surface over substance. Most platforms ask you to pay to submit. PTN asks you to show up, build your skill, and earn your way in. 🔴 PTN was built to flip the model: - From passive submissions → to intentional opportunity - From scattered advice → to direct-to-industry action - From clout-chasing “sync culture” → to career-building momentum in visual media music 🧠 What PTN Pulse Is PTN Pulse is the open floor of the PTN ecosystem. It’s the training ground, the check-in, the heartbeat of a movement made for those who want more than just credits—they want mastery. 🔴 Inside Pulse, you’ll get: - Weekly insight drops (real perspective from real experience) - Creator check-ins and rhythm building - First looks at PTN tools, content, and systems - A chance to get seen, not for clout, but for consistency There are no handouts here... NO shortcuts. Just presence, participation, and proof of work. 🔁 What Comes Next 🔘 PTN Pulse is not the destination. It's the signal before the broadcast. For those who rise consistently, who sharpen their craft and engage, there’s another layer waiting: PTN Broadcast. Where mentorship, briefs, custom opportunities, and deeper systems unlock. But you don’t get invited because you talk loud. You get there because you tuned in, showed up, and made the signal louder than the noise.
