Hello and thanks for inviting me
I don't normally join groups as I find it hard to find the time, but something prompted me here. Pleasure to make your acquaintance Peter

@Rachel Groves thank you Rachel
The 30% Challenge: Where's YOUR biggest opportunity?
When you joined The Paid Up Club, the promise was simple: To add at least 30% more profit without adding more hours. So let's talk about where that 30% is hiding in YOUR business. Over 50 years, I've found there are really only 4 places to find it: 1️⃣ More customers: But this usually means more hours, more marketing spend, more effort. It's the hardest way to grow. 2️⃣ Higher average order value: Charge more, offer deluxe packages, stop underpricing your expertise. This is often the fastest win. 3️⃣ Increased order frequency: Get clients coming back more often. Subscriptions, retainers, follow-up programmes. 4️⃣ Better retention: Keep clients longer. Remember: "satisfied" clients are only 65% loyal. "Very satisfied" clients are 95% loyal. That 30% gap is costing you a fortune. Here's the maths that changed everything for me: Improve just THREE of these by 10% each, and you don't get 10% growth. You get 33% growth. That's the power of exponential vs. linear thinking. And here's the best part - for most of us, adding 10% to these numbers doesn't require more staff, bigger premises, or longer hours. It requires better strategy. So here's my question for you: Looking at those 4 areas, where do you think YOUR biggest opportunity is right now? 🅰️ More customers — I need a better lead generation system 🅱️ Higher prices — I know I'm undercharging but struggle to raise my fees 🅲 More frequency — I do one-off projects but could create ongoing relationships 🅳 Better retention — I'm losing clients I shouldn't be losing Drop your letter in the comments and tell us WHY you picked that one. Even better, if you've already made progress in one of these areas, share what's working. Your win might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. Let's help each other find that 30%. 👇

i completely agree with this framework. For me this year, the biggest levers are B & C. Charging properly for expertise — and having the confidence to do so — is often the fastest way to create headroom without adding pressure. And moving from one-off transactions to ongoing relationships changes everything, for both stability and service quality. That said, retention matters just as much — but I think it’s crucial to do it without eroding margin. Retention built on discounting is fragile. Retention built on trust, consistency, and genuinely good outcomes is incredibly strong. When clients feel well-advised, looked after, and confident they chose well, they stay — and they refer. That’s where the real 30% lives.
