Commissions as artists~
Let’s talk about commissions as artists for a second~ ^_^ Not every artist has to take on commissions~ and honestly, not every artist should. Commissions come with structure, expectations, revisions, and sometimes a level of direction that doesn’t fit how everyone likes to create. Some artists thrive in that space. Others feel completely boxed in by it. Both sides are understandable~ For me personally, I actually enjoy the play room within commissions. I like starting with an idea~ sometimes something small like a bookmark or a quick mockup~ and then letting it evolve into something bigger over time. There’s a bit of collaboration in it, but also a challenge in translating someone else’s vision through your own voice. That said, I’ve learned that the way you approach commissions matters just as much as whether you take them at all: - Setting clear expectations upfront - Leaving room for your own artistic interpretation - Knowing when to say yes… and when to say no Commissions can be a great way to build relationships, stretch your skills, and create work you might not have made otherwise~ but they should still feel aligned with you as an artist. Curious where everyone else stands~ do you enjoy commissions, avoid them, or are you somewhere in between?

@Hansheng Lee I think we are too used to the traditional corporate hierarchy and a command-and-control structure, so it just works automatically without us stopping to think about it. Well, at least that's what I see here in Argentina; I hope the developed world is a little more advanced 😂

@Brigit Bishop Oh I admire how you see sorting things out with the client as something fun. They say practice makes perfect. I still have so much to learn from that hahaha
Weekend Check-In 🌿
Weekends are about slowing down for some~ and others winding up. But it’s important ti still play, wander a bit, and letting ideas breathe~ Maybe you’re finishing something you started this week. Maybe you’re sketching loosely, testing a new medium, or just observing. Or maybe you’re resting~and thats important too. Wherever you’re at, drop it below 👇 WIP, finished piece, messy sketch, or even just a thought you’re sitting with~ whatever you want to share~ Let’s see what’s growing this weekend 🌱

Another rest-er over here! but also spending some time on admin tasks. The life of the self-employed 😂

@Hansheng Lee thank you, I hope you enjoy your weekend too. Also, I want to take the Watercolor 101 class. I’ve no idea how to paint with watercolors but I’m really keen to learn. I hope I can find some time to do ir tomorrow.
WIP Wednesday 🎨
What are you working on this week? Show us the messy middle, the almost-there, the “I have no idea if this is working, but I’m doing it anyway” stage~! Growth doesn't come from stagnancy but little steps forward~ ^_^ Whether it’s a sketch, a half-finished piece, a concept, or even just an idea you’re sitting with~ we want to see it. Drop your WIP below, share where you’re at, and if you want feedback or just a little encouragement 💛 Let’s build together ✨

@Hansheng Lee Thank you so much! You’re so kind. I don’t know if it shows, but I’m avoiding tackling the seeds in the centre because I’m not quite sure how I’m going to paint them 😂

@Ramatoulie Matengu Beautiful! I didn’t know that stitch.
Happy World Art Day!
It’s celebrated today, 15 April, in honour of Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. I would like to thank all artists from all disciplines for delighting us with your work, for prompting us to reflect on the human condition, and for sharing your unique vision of the world. Here’s to all of you!

Hello everyone! I'm Laura, I'm from Argentina, and I recently decided to devote myself entirely to art. I currently have three projects underway: botanical fine art prints, my own large-scale works in graphite and coloured pencils on paper and canvas, and I’m setting up an art shop with a partner. I’m really happy to connect with other artists—thank you for providing this space. Here’s a picture of one of my favorite prints.

@Diana Pequeno Thanks, Diana. The project is still in its early stages, but we already know exactly what we want to offer. We’re focusing on fine art giclée prints, particularly of lesser-known works and techniques, and creative ways of using them – not just as framed art to hang on the wall. I’ll keep you posted.
