👀 Eye Contact = Engagement Following this week’s challenge, I’ve put together a short video showing how I build eye contact and engagement with my dog. Eye contact isn’t about staring competitions—it’s about teaching your dog that checking in with you is rewarding. When your dog chooses to focus on you, training becomes easier, distractions become less powerful, and your relationship grows stronger. Today’s Coffee Hour was a rambling, but also a personal one. I shared why, as vets, pet owners, and human beings, we should be slower to judge and quicker to extend grace. I talked about empathy, the unseen stories behind difficult decisions, why I cried after euthanizing a hamster, why saying goodbye to a 15-year-old dog hit especially hard this weekend, and the moments I still regret not choosing kindness. A conversation about veterinary medicine, but also about how we should show up for each other in today’s world. ❤️

Just a quick psa before we enter the warmer months: Heat stroke in dogs, is not uncommon - - especially in short faced dogs like bulldogs. Even on cool days they’re at risk. And especially in cars. I can post a longer video (let me know in comments if this would be helpful) about prevention/signs - but for now just remember this: Cool them first. That’s the priority. THEN go to the vet. And if possible, both at same time.

I think this is an underestimated thing. Dog size can influence so much in our lives: Food costs Where you can go (restaurants, holidays, public transport) What you can do together (hiking, running, work) Vet bills (DEFinitely) Size of your poop bags (and what goes in it) Even size of your car 🚗 And drop their BREED in the comments! 👀
