Happy New Year, Coop Keepers! Let's Set Some Flock Goals for 2026! 🎉
Welcome to a fresh start with The Healthy Coop Collective! As we step into the new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on what we want to achieve with our feathered friends in the months ahead. Whether you're a seasoned keeper or just starting your backyard flock journey, having clear goals can make all the difference in creating a thriving, healthy environment for your birds. Here's an interesting fact to inspire your planning: According to Penn State Extension, commercial breeds of laying chickens can produce up to 260 eggs per year—but those results depend heavily on management factors like floor space, feed quality, proper nesting areas, and lighting. While we're not all running commercial operations, this reminds us that how we manage our flocks directly impacts their productivity and wellbeing! So let's talk goals! Here are some areas to consider: ✅ Health & Wellness - Is your focus on preventive care, learning to recognize early warning signs, or building a better first aid kit? ✅ Production Goals - Are you hoping to increase egg production, improve egg quality, or maintain consistency through the seasons? ✅ Flock Expansion - Planning to add new breeds, increase your flock size, or maybe try hatching chicks this year? ✅ Infrastructure Improvements - Dreaming of a coop upgrade, better predator protection, or an automated watering system? ✅ Knowledge & Skills - Want to deepen your understanding of poultry nutrition, learn to recognize diseases earlier, or master natural remedies? ✅ Sustainability Goals - Interested in composting manure effectively, integrating your flock with your garden, or reducing feed costs through foraging? ✅ Fun & Enrichment - Maybe you just want to spend more quality time with your birds and provide better enrichment activities! 💬 Now it's your turn! Drop a comment below and share: - What are your top 1-3 goals for your flock this year? - What's one thing you hope to improve or learn? - What's your biggest challenge that you want to tackle in 2026?

I’m just trying to have happier and healthier birds more than anything. I hatched and sold over 200 silkie chicks last year would really like to get to 300 this spring. I have ran into several issues as far as the heath and wellness of the hens I keep and it’s concerning to say the least. I’ve since made a lot of effort to improve the livelihood but still feel like I’m falling short at a really unfortunate cost. Any and all advice guidance is appreciated.

How can I schedule an appointment for you to come out and diagnose my flock? I am very open to constructive criticism and I’m always trying to improve and make a happier healthier home for my birds!
