Dont talk to me, Im Busy....
I was running behind. The day before it had rained, so I was trying to catch up on a bunch of lawns. I pull up to the next job and I’m on the phone to my wife, and I say, “I’m going to have to go — if I sit here for more than 30 seconds, the guy’s going to come out and start talking to me.” Lovely guy. Just… talkative. And that day, I didn’t have time to talk. So I hang up, jump out of the ute, grab the weed eater and get straight to work. After a while, I can see him in the background trying to get my attention. But I’m focused. Head down, earmuffs on. Go, go, go. Dodged a bullet there. Almost done — probably ¾ of the way through — he comes out again. I haven’t got time to talk, but I finally take the gear off and walk over. “Hey mate, how’s it going?” He says, “Good, good… I was just wondering… why are you mowing this lawn today?” I pause. “…Oh,” I said, “I couldn’t do it yesterday, I got rained off?” He says, “The only reason I ask is that it’s not due till next week.” And that’s when I realised… I was mowing the wrong lawn. I was supposed to be across the road. If I’d just stopped for 30 seconds when he was first trying to talk to me, I would’ve saved myself a good 40 minutes. Instead, I spent a chunk of my already-packed day on a job that didn’t even need doing. Has this ever happened to you, or is it just me?
