Hi everyone, my name is Austin. I am trying to start a lawn care business, and I’m really focused on learning how to grow it the right way. I joined this group because I want to connect with others, share ideas, and especially pick up tips on finding clients and building a successful business. Hi Austin, Welcome to the group. The first thing that I would do is set up a free Google Business Profile. Then optimize it. That will bring you a couple of calls a week for free once its up and running.
Mowing the lawn is only half the job...
It took me a while to realize something that now feels obvious: Mowing the lawn isn’t just about mowing the lawn. It’s about getting paid too. There are two parts to the job: Do the work. Make sure you get paid. And if you only focus on the first part, hoping the second will just happen then...​ you’re leaving the most important part up to chance. I used to give people a lot of leeway. Some paid on time. Some paid the day before the next cut. Some… didn’t pay at all. So I set a rule: ​Everbody that not on a monthy account pays within 24 hours (90% of our clients)​ Anything beyond that? Time to shake a few trees We started texting invoices the same night the job was done. ​Payment due in 24 hours.​ If it’s late, we follow up, kindly but firmly every few days. Turns out, most people pay on time when they know that you are a squeeky wheel. And the ones who don’t? Eventually, they get tired of a the reminder texts and leave, and by then, we’re not sad to see them go. There are plenty of good paying clients out there. We turned up. We did the job. And we expected to be paid, promptly, clearly, and without awkwardness. That’s a fair exchange. Dont you agree?
