how to get better at wrestling
I think one of the fastest ways to get better at wrestling is juts stop being so tense. I think alot of use think we are doing good because we are tense and just go hard the whole round. but its impossible to experiment when doing this. And yes you might "lose" at first(even tho there is no losing at practice) but you will start to develop techniques you could never even learn because you are going so HARD!

Paralysis by analysis sometimes, also as my old Coach told me 🤷
Does your gym let you standup??
so question for you guys is how often does your gym let you start standing? im curious because I know some gyms are less than others. As well as how often do they actually teach you guys takedowns in class?? please let me know below I am very curious how other schools do this!

yes, BJJ classes do end with live rounds from standing, typically. Mostly, though, BJJ lads will attend Wrestling to sharpen prior to comps as well, ofc. Helps that our kickboxing/wrestling coach is also a purple belt 🔥

@Andreus Bond pretty cool little community we have here 👌🏼
recovery question??!
how do you guys like to recover from jiujitsu?? I know some of y'all are old in here🤣(not a diss) but how do y'all like to recover from jiujitsu?? I personally like epsom salt baths but thats just cause I can do it at home. I also like tiger balm(I'm asian). but I'm curious how y'all do it, plus it can help people in the community!

Bruh 😂 Electrolyte drink during live rounds, massage gun, stretch, wife cooks me a high protein meal ready for when I get home (keeper), sleep is no brainer (but something I naturally struggle with). Careful with nutrition. Not always perfect and easier said than done ofc 😂

@Andreus Bond wife does a bulk buy of 0 sugar Gatorades when she gets to cost co (we live in an isolated area of the country) 😂 probably better options but I like them
Are shots required in jiujitsu??
so I have been thinking about is shooting necessary for standup in jiujitsu? And my opinion is if you just want to be good and take people down in jiujitsu I don't think you HAVE to shoot. you could be good at ducks, arm drags, under hook, overtook, judo. I have just noticed from me personally I don't shoot that much in jiujitsu because of all the dangers of it. But if I am with someone very good I do feel like a shot is necessary if all my other stuff is getting shut down. What do y'all think? let me know below!

Wrestler with a short stint recently of BJJ. Got gillied so much for first few weeks when Doing live rounds. Something that needs to be adapted I think.

Welcome to Takedown U — Introduce Yourself
Drop an intro so we can all get to know you. Answer these 5 questions: 1. What’s your name + where do you train? 2. How long have you been doing jiu-jitsu? 3. How confident do you feel with takedowns right now (1–10)? 4. What’s the biggest thing you struggle with on the feet?(stance, shots, getting sprawled on, fear of shooting, etc.) 5. What’s one takedown or skill you really want to learn? Optional:Post a training goal for the next 30 days.

Hey team Aware this is group is for BJJ primarily, I am more a wrestler, but I want to try learn a bit of both and adapt my style for both BJJ and wrestling. 1: Kieran Allen. Training at “Te Kura Awhio.” It’s a very small MMA based gym in a small, coastal town on East Coast of New Zealand 🇳🇿 2: Tbh, I have only done a handful of BJJ classes. Mostly trained in wrestling. Started 2024 (only my third year). 3: Reasonably confident, but always room to improve as we all know. 6/10. NZ wrestling nowhere near the skill of other countries tbh. There are levels for sure. 4: Coach reckons shot entries. I still have some bad habits. 5: Keen to learn a real nice ankle pick. Second would be a crisp outside sweep single - good for the taller dudes I compete against as I am short and stockier for my class 👌🏼

@Andreus Bond haha cheers bro it’s probably pretty buzzy for you to hear 😂 here it’s not a big sport at all. It should be, but isn’t - it’s more often than not classes in MMA gyms that teach classes to help with all round MMA development really.
