I’m on Team Network. Because what good is a great demo reel if it has nowhere to go? 🤔
A Few Simple Things To Feel Better
Everybody’s different, so take this list as inspiration rather than hard rules. Some things might click for you, others not so much — and that’s totally fine. ☕ Coffee One or two cups are usually enough. If you need more and still don’t feel awake, the issue probably isn’t “not enough coffee.” Also, caffeine hangs around in your system for hours — so if you’re waking up in the middle of the night (and it’s not the kids), your late coffee might be the real culprit. 🍳 Breakfast Choices Starting the day with protein instead of just carbs helps avoid that blood sugar rollercoaster. A carb-heavy breakfast can make you crash, leaving you tired or dizzy… and then we reach for more coffee. And while fruit juice often sounds “healthy,” the sugar spike is usually higher than you’d expect. To put it into perspective: a Coke Zero plus a Vitamin C supplement would probably be the healthier option — not as an actual breakfast choice, but just as a comparison. And for the record, sweeteners are among the most researched food ingredients out there, and no, they don’t cause cancer. ☀️ Vitamin D3 For me, this is the ultimate mood booster. Most of us don’t get enough sun (especially in winter), and Vitamin D is tied to energy, immune system, and yes — your mood. Feels like turning the light switch back on. 💪 Creatine Not just for gym rats. Creatine is one of the most researched supplements out there, and it supports your brain just as much as your muscles. It can help with energy, focus, and even long-term cognitive health. Pretty crazy that almost everyone could benefit from it. 🌬 Breathing Most of the time we breathe shallow without even noticing. A couple of slow, deep breaths during the day can reset your nervous system and bring you back into the moment. Simple, free, and surprisingly effective. 🚶 Walk, Don’t Run You don’t have to run marathons to stay in shape. Running burns through glycogen (your quick energy stores) first, and yes, it can also dip into muscle if those stores are low. Walking, on the other hand, keeps you in a lower intensity “fat-burning zone” and is much easier on your body. Sure, running burns more calories in less time, but for long-term health and consistency, a simple 20-minute walk a day is more than enough — and something most people can actually stick with.

🤣🤣 All joking aside though, the 2-3 hr blocks thing is huge. And if I am doing something kind of tedious like stems/alts/edits I make sure to take a break between finishing each track to do something else; so I’ll do 2 to 4 shorter blocks that day at different intervals. I like to start early in the day so usually by lunch I have been some degree of productive and if I need to change gears, head to a rehearsal or gig, leave the house or just get something else done I have still managed to tackle a good amount of in-studio stuff and found a way to move forward with the day.
Spitfire Symphony Orchestra - is it good enough?
Hello everyone. Although I already own some good orchestral libraries, I'm wondering if you consider Spitfire Symphony Orchestra good enough to expand my collection. I think the current offer is more than good and the question is whether there will be more opportunities like this (although I have the impression that in the future many libraries will be cheaper, as if some new phase with Splice is coming), but the whole bundle together with Symphonic Extras and Originals Intimate Grand Piano costs me 234€. Cheaper than getting Symphony Orchestra at the 50% discount on the entire cart that is currently active. I'm especially interested in the opinions of those who may own the library and have actively worked on a project with it. Thanks everyone in advance.

SSO was the first thing I used to build an orchestral template and it’s still a go to when filling things out. Some of the the “curated ensemble” patches are great in some specific spots-LOVE the Beast Brass in a trailer track too and overall the brass in SSO has some better dynamic than the BBCSO (imo). I rarely use the strings but only because I typically favor chamber sized sections and these are little bigger. They’re symphonic strings and a little more washy to my ear; but I do like them for cinematic nature underscore when I let myself get a little more expansive with the string sounds I grab. If you’re still lacking some symphonic instruments for your orchestral template I don’t think you can go wrong grabbing SSO but it’s definitely one worth waiting for a good Spitfire discount for. Also, orchestral libraries like this are big so make sure you’re good on SSD storage. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of use for it if you’re still building up your arsenal of orchestral samples. If you have all these instruments from other developers though you can save money and have some good fun mixing and matching with a lucid blend of deliberate design and creative combinations from different brass, string, brass, and percussion libraries. It’s a lot of fun seeing what developers really blend nicely. Some combos can unexpectedly be quite fun and flavorful.

@Andrew Hand I did the same thing when building my catalog of samples. I knew the Spitfire libraries were good and used them as a quality go to but my starting points have definitely changed. Still plenty of SA in pretty much any template I’m working with though!
What are some best practices when programming and mixing virtual guitars?
While I produced many songs ranging from rock up to heavy metal with electric guitar libraries. I still feel like they don’t sound realistic enough. I know nothing beats the real thing, but how do approach programming and mixing virtual guitars?

@Andrew Hand Not sure I have one, but I will say that that committing to the SAME guitar with different amplifier combinations is a good way to vary your tonal spectrum and avoids intonation issues that can rise up when trying a range of tones layering up different guitars (actual instruments, not tracks or software synths).

@Andrew Hand and a new track is a new chance to track with a different guitar if I want. AND starting a track with guitar for me inevitably yields a very different result; sometimes even depending on which one I picked up.

Hey all. What are your views about using LinkedIn as a means of networking with potential clients or a means of advertising? I've just created one today but I'm wondering if it might be a lame idea? p.s.
