From CA & TX Courtrooms to Studicata—Hi Everyone! 👋
Hi everyone! 👋 I’m Katherine. 🥰 I'm a lawyer, TEDx speaker, and a thriving ADHD mompreneur of 2 amazing boys. I've been practicing law for over 20 years, and am licensed in California and Texas. I enjoy guiding law students and new lawyers in navigating the ups and downs of this fascinating profession. 🙂 I joined Studicata because I admire how this community makes law school simpler and more accessible. Law school is such a unique season of life, and I love seeing how supportive communities like this help replace some of the stress. I wish I had Studicata when I was in law school. 🥰 I’m also excited to learn from all of you...what your law school journey looks like now, what challenges you’re facing, and the strategies that are working for you. Your stories inspire me. 🙏 Plus, the AI Age has also made me curious how law schools are using AI (if at all) in their curriculum... Looking forward to cheering everyone here and contributing where I can! 🌟I appreciate you. 🙏

@Ellee Crawford Hi Ellee! Thanks so much for sharing this. It takes a lot of courage to say out loud what so many of us with ADHD silently feel. Even though I took the Bar 20 years ago, I still have very vivid memories about preparing for it and taking it. Bar prep is definitely intimidating, but I’ve found a few things that help ease that working-memory weight. Here's 2 of them: 1. Externalize your memory. I lean on checklists, color-coded outlines, and even sticky notes. Think of them as “memory anchors” so you don’t waste brainpower trying to hold everything at once. I used to re-write my outlines by hand over and over again -- many, many times-- to externalize the information. It helped my ADHD brain's executive functions a lot! 2. Compassion + pacing. Give yourself permission to move at your rhythm. The Bar is a marathon, not a sprint, especially the time preparing for it - which at the time I took it, I prepared for about 3 months after graduation until I took the Bar. Remember: Progress (not perfection) is what gets you across the finish line. When are you taking the Bar?

@Peter Emelue Aww! Thank you for your kind words. I agree how English has helped unify us all to share our messages. I appreciate you. 🙏
Does the order of studying matter?
Hello, I am in my 3L fall semester of law school and doing some light studying leading up to when I take the bar in July of 2026, I am wondering if I can skip around? For example, I just finished the Torts section and want to jump over to Business Entities/WTE (since I am currently taking those classes) Is this method okay or should I stay in order with Criminal law review next? Thank you!!

Hi Daniella! This is such an insightful question. Listen to how your brain wants you to study - based on your question, I can tell you have good instincts. 🥰 In my experience when I took the Bar 20 years ago, skipping around worked extremely well for my brain. Also, I agree with your strategy. By studying the Business Entities/WTE Bar prep while you’re taking that same course in law school is a fantastic strategy! I used a similar strategy when I was in law school. It helped me finish law school in 2 years (instead of 3) while being prepared for the Bar at the same time - helping me pass the Bar the first time. I’m saying this with humility to let you know that you’re on the right track. 🥰 Have fun with your Business Entities class! I liked that topic in law school and ended up working with a many business entities and issues during my legal practice, even now. If you have any questions about it, just let me know here or by DM. I love simplifying complicated legal concepts. I’m a proud geek. 😄 I appreciate you. 🙏

Hi Jackson! Congratulations on starting your first year in law school! I love your optimism especially about where this profession takes you. As a 20-year practicing lawyer, the legal profession has taken me on both traditional and non-traditional legal journey. It has been a fulfilling ride! 💕 I wish you the best either way your own legal journey. 🙏

Studying....
Resubscribed to Studicata in hopes of getting Evidence and Con Law down, because it is week 5 and I am completely lost 🙃

Welcome back! Con Law was one of my favorite classes back in law school. It's still my favorite topic when I'm reading case law for fun. Yes, I'm a proud geek who reads case law for fun, especially the seminal cases from our current US Supreme Court. 🥰 Evidence can be a challenging concept in law school. The concepts clicked for me only when I became a trial lawyer and actually had to use the rules of evidence in court. My lived experience with both Con Law and Evidence concepts helped me simplify them. In law school, it's harder to do that. It's harder to relate to concepts that seem so confusing. So, you're not alone. 💞 Who knew Hearsay was such a difficult concept when we hear it so much on TV? 😄 What specific concept feels hard to understand right now? Maybe I can simplify it somehow.
