Challenge #2 - Personal Connection to the Foundations/Myself
When thinking about where I hold connection to myself in my body I felt ease in my breath & extremities. I mostly felt neutral around my larger muscle groups and grounded into the floor through my feet. I quickly noticed where my tension lies in my neck and shoulders which is the case for me a lot of the time. I also have been more connected to my sense of self this week in enduring my menstrual cycle. I often find myself noticing sensations more especially when symptoms arise from my hormonal changes this time of the month. I would say today I feel most connected to my breath which bleeds into my sense of self a lot of the time. It’s a big reason why I use breath to ground me so often :) Thinking about these ideas instilled the concept of needing to be so connected to our bodies especially as women and listen to what our bodies need as it changes every single day.

Absolutely! Listening to our bodies is a necessity, as you get further into the work you’ll deepen those skills to know when to listen, when to challenge yourself etc based on a deeper connection to your nervous system! And yes as women we totally are 100% more sensitive during different times of our cycles and there are hormonal shifts and nervous system functions that prove this!
Challenge #1 - Reading List Selection
Hi everyone! I am super excited to be apart of this course. The first book I chose to read on this journey is “The Body Keeps the Score”. I have heard of this book multiple times in my education in art therapy and trauma-informed expressive arts and this is my sign to finally get into it :)

Nice! It is a very technical heavy book and might be a bit slow to get through but it’s worth the read… do I think it’s the “bible” of Somatics no… but it is a foundational!!! Feel free to ask any questions you have in the q+ a board, happy learning!
Todays Group Call
Since we didn't have a group today to work with. I spend some time chatting about Foundations, connection to self, body, sensation, a little peak into "embodied wisdom" etc. A teaching moment for today. Please comment anything you found helpful or any questions!

@Madison Solano GREAT noticing, that’s the art of embodied wisdom.. to be curious… next time you are in warrior one and you feel that cringe… instead of running away from it or shifted away, can you stay with the cringe feeling and notice, stay curious? What does that feeling have to tell you :)

@Madison Solano as well as tolerate staying with discomfort instead of immediately moving out of it, we will get to that in the somatic experiencing chapters and beyond

I love that! And would it would be curious to explore how to integrate that into creative arts 🧐 when the Soma Arts chapter opens you might find it though my provoking as far as integrating modalities!
