Which Way To Go?
Hey, all. I have a question regarding some tracks I have written prior to beginning to watching the videos on this site which have taught me more than I learned in 2 months of watching YouTube videos. I am gaining a lot more knowledge, and I'm starting to question all the decisions I made on these tracks. I think they could be viable tracks, and I like them but, they could be so much better. My question is this: Do I strip them down to bare bones, and completely redo them (ie. gain staging, FX, EQ'ing, etc.).? Or do I leave them as is, and chalk them up to a learning experience and begin new projects? I am leaning toward both. Copy the project and redo everything, then keep the original for comparison and to track my progression. What do y'all think? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karlton...

@John Lardinois Thanks so much John. I wish you the same. You will absolutely get a copy of "String Theory" when it is complete! Thanks again...

@Rob Cooney That makes lots of sense. The tracks I've written are what I was actually feeling at the moment. One was written for my girl before she left for a new job in another state, (happy to say we are still together regardless of the distance). The ones that I am thinking about redos on are the ones that are emotional to me and have meaning. This goes back to the way that I DJ. If a song doesn't mean something, I don't play it. If it isn't positive I don't play it. most of these are kinda emotional for me and have a meaning to me. So I'd really like to over time learn from them as well as perhaps release them. But to be honest, Releasing tracks is not as important to me as just making music I am proud of, that has meaning, and perhaps touches someone who is listening should I release them. It will definitely help to go back to them after more study and practice at this part of the music process for me. Thank you Rob. That made me think a bit more on the direction I need to go in! Awesome advice...
Gain Staging Debate: Session View or Arrangement View?
Quick question for everyone, what’s your preferred approach for initial gain staging for your individual tracks? Do you usually do it in Session View or Arrangement View, and why do you prefer one over the other? I’ve been debating this with a few producer friends and curious to hear different perspectives.

Being new, I never really thought about it that much, but after thinking about your question I am in Tom Baldwins' camp. Initially, I gain stage session view. It just keeps things simple for me at this point in my education on this part of music. But to get to exactly where I need to be in the gain staging process I switch to arrangement view to allow me to individual stage each track separately. I suppose there is no right or wrong. It's pretty subjective I suppose.

@Tom Baldwin It's amazing how gaining just a touch of understanding into how music is truly created, opens the ears! I listen to music differently now than when I was DJ'ing. And BTW I did catch the cow bells, lol! They were panned to the right...
I’ve been building something new.
A solo project called DOSIMO. It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve released before. It’s slower. Heavier. Feels like it’s coming from a different place entirely. The first release lands at the end of April, but I’ve started sharing fragments of it. This is one piece of it. The rest is unfolding here: instagram.com/dosimo.music/ Open to any thoughts. Especially on the visuals and how it’s coming across so far.

It's funny, I still have a few sets on Mix Cloud from several years ago. I was just looking at it. I haven't really played or posted anything there in a long time.

Feature requests?
Hey guys, wanted to get some thoughts on how we could make this group (both free and paid membership) even better value for everyone. Post your ideas/requests below, and drop a like on the requests you like the most! Some prompts: - What could we START doing that we’re not already doing? - What could we do MORE of? - What features would you like to see added? - What do you get the most value from right now, and how could we make it even better? Obviously can’t make any promises in terms of following through on every suggestion, but I can promise that your suggestions will all be considered and we heavily weight user feedback when thinking about improvements.

Although I am very new here I find post production fascinating and as I am watching the initial videos in the classroom, I often wonder what plugins are being used. I can see a few of the names of some of them. I think (especially for new members), it would be great to have a list of the plugins listed and perhaps suggestions on alternatives that (are not quite as expensive), that will recreate the effects that are being created before my very eyes. 😊
