多年前我收到一位在某科技公司的主管，他即將要被派到在美國亞利桑那的新工廠，有一天告訴我：「我如何跟美國員工說我們採用的是責任制？」Oh my ... 我們展開了至少五堂課的文化銜接！ 法律上來看美國有責任制的職位（an exempt position），所以寫得很清楚。但是在我看來台灣的責任制比較不一樣？ ❝ There is a kind of work ethic that runs in the veins of Taiwanese workplace. Doesn’t matter it’s blue or white collar, in a factory or on the ocean - that is 責任制. Technically in English, it’s an exempt position - meaning that the job is exempt or excluded from overtime pay, getting a fixed salary no matter the hours. However, I like to call 責任制 a work culture rather than a policy in Taiwan. It’s unwritten, unspoken yet expected. In Taiwan, it manifests itself as desk warming, as working overtime without pay, as accepting unreasonable hours. While holding someone accountable is one thing, it’s another thing to have a society that is ruled by it. People who abide by the “exempt culture”, will do more to look good, to carry the team and to avoid liability.
