Fun weekend climbing with friends!
Just wanted to share our crag day with everyone. No crazy pushing grades, just a fun day out at a local crag (Curahee Mountain in North Georgia) with a bunch of friends. All of our kids are on the climbing team at our gym together, and we all try to get outside at least once a month.

Looks like a fun time for all! Love to see people getting out of the gym
Little intro :)
Hi, I'm Andrea, and I live in the west of Spain. I've been climbing for a year now, and I'm doing 6a outdoors on lead and 6b+ in the gym. I would like to learn more about climbing and meet new people with the same passion so that we can motivate each other. I'd loved climbing since I was a child, but I never had the chance to practise it until I started university. Now I'm sure that this is something I want to do for the rest of my life. My main goal for next year would be to climb 7a (5.11d) outdoors consistently :)

Glad to have you here!
Recent win!
i was able to get out this past Saturday for some TRS in the evening. I worked a climbed named “The Falls, 5.10+”. I worked the climb once, the beginning was by far the hardest section. The route runs next to a waterfall and the water flows below the start of the climb. Many holds are damp and dirty. I cleaned, and tried to dry some of the holds. My second try was a clean send and I’m super psyched on the send! The moves felt pretty chill and I felt great on the climb! The only move I struggled with was the start. It’s a reach to get into a good crimp(chalked up crimp to the right of the rope) but the feet are slim/slick and you have to lock off into a far reach for a jug. I’m coming off a couple injuries and it’s super nice to see that I’m getting back into form and have a nice send!

@Ryan Hegarty the first part was the most vertical but the rest is definitely more slabby. It’s sandstone so the rock is smooth and isn’t very featured. I had to trust my feet with smears and find the best friction on holds I used.

@Hedda Aarhus it was around 100ft/33m.
How do you get out of a funk?
I’m currently rehabbing a torn gracilis AND a pulley injury. I’m trying to still be consistent, go to the gym with different expectations than normal, not be too hard on myself. But if I’m honest it’s been about 3 to 4 weeks of not feeling like climbing, or not having very good energy while I’m there. So what do you do when you get into phases of climbing like this? How do you pull yourself out of it? (Stitch gets it)

That’s a great suggestion Mike. Sorry to hear about the injuries Ryan. Hopefully you’re back to 100% soon! Personally, I allow myself to not want to climb. It happens to me from time to time for a variety of reasons. During this time I’ll take time to do anything I want to. It could be just being home after work, hanging out with friends, working( I have a photography business besides my 9-5). Like Mike, my body will crave sun, exercise and doing difficult things so I’ll let myself get into whatever thing I’m enjoying at the moment. It could be running more, lifting weights, hiking, social dancing, or whatever I feel. After some time I’ll want to climb and exercise and then I’ll be happy to be back climbing and all that comes with it. Covid and injuries have made me super appreciative that my body is healthy and that it can do anything that I want to do. I’m honestly just happy that I have the ability to move, try hard and enjoy life. Don’t be hard on yourself! You’re human and it’s all normal. There’s no right or wrong way to go about your climbing career!

@Ryan Hegarty that’s sick! Good luck on your course and you can definitely get that lead cert! I’d love to talk about photography sometime!
PSA - always do a safety check!
I witnessed a little “scary” situation yesterday at the gym. A couple next to me was apparently having issues feeding the rope through the grigri and when I looked over I noticed that it had been loaded backwards! I told the climber and said he should come down to get it fixed, meanwhile his partner had just released the break and her break hand, so the climber dropped from ~10ft. No one was hurt and the climber was apologetic about not doing a safety check because he just trusted his girlfriend… Anyways, the situation spooked me and I figured I would share! Safe climbing out there! 🧗‍♀️

I have seen things in the gym and at the crags that always makes me cautious of who I’m with or around regardless of their experience. It’s always good to take a second to double check yourself, your partner and those close. Speaking about something is ok and it could prevent an accident.
