Just finished watching episode 2 of the chats. “Every scenario we train is the same story.” That’s at the very core of Budo Taijutsu Unchained. This was an excellent episode. Regardless of how many years you’ve spent training, lifting, fighting, or studying martial arts, the body still operates on the same fundamental principles. There are natural reactions, reflexes, mechanics, and patterns that happen when the body is presented with a specific stimulus. The deeper you train, the less you’re simply learning techniques and the more you’re learning to recognize and manipulate those natural responses. That’s where martial arts gets really interesting. It’s learning how to disrupt the body’s expected response. How to short-circuit a reaction. How to create an opening, manipulate balance, structure, movement, and perception, and ultimately elicit the response you want. The technique is only the surface. The real skill is understanding the body well enough to make it do what you want it to do before it even realizes what happened.
