Intro
Hi Everyone, glad to join a community like this and learn ways to lower taxes and invest in RE. My wife and I live in Portland, we own a long term rental and a STR in Maui ( if you ever want to vacation, hit me..we do direct bookings) and used the STR loophole. Our goal for doing this is financial freedom for us so we can spend time with the kids but also support charities amd people in need around us. Im an engineer by training and love investing in stock market using options for income. Looking forward to learning from the community .

3 Laws of Investing
My wife and I just celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary in New York City ❤️ and, of course, we stopped by Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. Walking around, I couldn’t help but notice all the glamour, flashing tickers, and “get rich quick” hype that comes with the stock market. But the truth is simple: ✅ Law #1: The stock market is a mechanism that transfers wealth from the impatient to the patient. It’s not about timing the market — it’s about time in the market. ✅ Law #2: On average, the stock market doubles every 9 years. $100K today → $200K in 9 years → $400K in 18 years → $800K in 27 years → $1.6M in 36 years. 📈 ✅ Law #3: Have a financial roadmap for every single dollar before it comes in. Wealthy people assign dollars before they hit the bank account. The most successful investors? They stick to these principles and let time + consistency do the work. 👉 If you want to dive deeper, check out my podcast episode on The 7 Steps to Financial Freedom (Spotify & YouTube).

@Tanner Jenson Congrats on 5 years! In real estate, we say location location location....In stocks it should be patience patience patience 😅
Business Travel Guidance
Where can we find guidance about how to deduct costs for travel for our STR business? We’re looking for ways to combine business travel with family time/recreation and want to stay above board. Would love to hear from other’s experiences

What we have done is plan work before leaving ( setup meeting with contractor or people you will meet ). Spend 4 of the 8hrs doing work/biz related to the STR. ( plates, deep cleaning, repairs)…be reasonable. Hope that helps
Cost Seg - Virtual vs Onsite
It is more likely that less expensive virtual cost segs trigger IRS audits than onsite audits?

My 1st Post
`Hi, I have owned my own consulting firm since 2010 with a background in leadership in various capacities. This means I moved from "being" a W-2 to a 1099. As shared in my intro post, I am purchasing my first STR, closing on 10/24/2025. I plan to create a legacy portfolio for my kids, enjoying the income and asset as part of my future retirement.
