Rhythm Skating
Hi all! I've seen a few comments about wanting to learn rhythm skating or "rhythm skate moves" and about how difficult it is to to be on the learning journey for this without others. I wanted to open the conversation about what challenges you are experiencing with this. Is it wanting to increase understanding of musicality in general? Or how musicality is incorporated into skating? Is it specific moves, or a specific rhythm skating style you are trying to understand more? Curious to know. If there are specific moves or styles, but you're not quite sure what they're called, feel free to share video links for reference.

Progress update - if you want to call it that…
It’s been a while since I’ve been to the rink. I went today and used my new skates. They had harder wheels so I felt like a beginner with rentals on. Couldn’t crossover, had a tough time trying to balance and overall apprehensive bc there were a lot of kids around. I felt like my knees were not bent enough (57yo) and I didn’t have a flow Any tips for me to get used to my new skates? I’m having such a tough time progressing. At home I have a 5’x8’ piece of flooring in my basement and I just don’t know which exercises I should do to get better and not be so apprehensive. I wound up selling my orbits and getting a better fitting pair of the boost’s (Riedell on Amazon bc there aren’t any shops close by) Thank you!! 😊

I’ve been struggling…I finally went to take some skate lessons a few weeks ago. After the lesson was over I tried to practice what I learned, which is transitions. I remember skating forward then “coming to” with out my roller skates on. I don’t know how my skates, and my bag wound up in my car. They had to call my husband, he came and took me to the er and they did a ct scan. Thank goodness it was a minor concussion. I put my other pair of skates on today for the first time just to try them on to see if they were the same size as the pair I was wearing when I fell. Needless to say to say I’m a little apprehensive these past couple of weeks. Has anyone ever felt this way? If yes how did you get back into it? *it feels good to have let that out*

@Isabel Athina Mitzen I did go about two weeks ago and skated around the rink gingerly at first. Then got into a decent groove. (I’m still a beginner/intermediate) There was a man skating like he was also getting back into the groove, he wound up falling and hitting his head. I got really nervous and had to get off the floor. I calmed down and went back to skate.

Skate Medal 🏅
Last night, while I was at a skate session, I got called into the office only for my skate mentor to give me a bronze medal as one of the most improved skaters, I cried so much! I’ve only been skating for almost 3 years and it meant so much to me for my efforts to be recognized. I’m truly grateful and I can’t wait to see where my skate journey takes me. So many people helped push me this far. 💕❤️

Riedell Orbit in Lagoon size 9. used condition for sale
Hello if anyone is interested in getting a pair of these I’m willing to get them to you. They are used and have minor scuff marks. *when I bought them I didn’t have proper sizing so they are a little big for me. I realized that skates are not like shoes so I’m not sure if it’s affecting my progress. My guess is that the size 9 is a men’s and for a lady it would be a 10 ish. I’m a ladies 9 so for me I would need a woman’s size 8 instead. If you are interested let me know. Thank you.

Yes this time I looked at the size chart and my feet are 10 inches so I’m a Riedell size 8. 😂 go figure. I’m a woman’s 9 with a 10 inch foot that fits a size 8 🤣
