Wheel question.
I changed out my sonar 85a to sure grip boardwalk 65’s. Does anyone have these? If yes how do you like them for pavement outside. What wheels do you use for outside pavement? I put my skates on today and they were quite slippery so I’m curious if anyone has these. *I bought them based on one of dirty Deborah Harry’s tutorials bc outside skating is a little more accessible to me. Thank you in advance

@Albert Schepis They are 65mm made with urethane. 78A hardness. I’m still learning all the sizes etc.

@Isabel Athina Mitzen Thank you for this! This is good to know if I want go to overpeck park for the trails. I guess for my driveway and garage (not that big of an area) I’ll go back to the sonars. 🤗
So much for skating... now what?
(This IS a win - you'll see). I've been skating at local basketball & tennis courts since last May no problem. People (including parks employees) have smiled and encouraged me, even said they like watching, I've never been in anyone's way nor done any harm, nor has my benign activity encouraged any other skaters to "invade" the courts... I can't GET anyone to join me. You probably see where this is going... some guy, a belligerent bully didn't just suggest maybe I should reconsider (as I attempted to skate on an empty tennis court) - he just hauled off and started threatening me and told me to leave immediately, shouting I was "going to ruin it for everyone!" I politely said I'd been skating there for almost a year no problem, done no harm, no one's said a word until that moment, but it only made him more insistent, loud and threatening, throwing in lots of "bros", etc. I left as he and his friends laughed, having won their little battle, defeating my attempted invasion, making me feel almost afraid for my life. I drove to some other courts but lots of people out for some reason; I guess spring break? I was really rattled, adrenaline pumping, and stopped by the police station nearby to ask an officer what his take on it would be. He was sympathetic but said he'd probably have to go with the what's on the signs, that wheeled things weren't allowed. Anyhow, cautionary tale - keep in mind there are people out there that refuse to live and let live, and they relish the opportunity to get in your way. This can be an additional challenge to skating. I'll look for a solution or work-around and let you know.

Hello, unfortunately in nj is the same. Ignorant people here think that all skaters are the kind that will vandalize their new pickle ball space by scratching the court with our wheels. Mind you, they’ve only played once and was sore for 4 days and never went back. Buuuuttt we skaters cannot use the empty court. Such bs really. That guy is just an a—- h—- who is jealous of someone whole was enjoying a hobby. I’m sure I speak for everyone and say that you going back to fuel him would not be a good idea. Your safety comes first. You don’t know what he will do. I have a recreation center in my town that I cannot use bc the basketball players have to have only sneakers on the court. You would think that the Knicks were playing ball in my town. Maybe try to use the parking lot of the local elementary school after 3:00. They maybe a little more receptive. Hope that helps. Don’t let anyone defeat you!

Rhythm Skating
Hi all! I've seen a few comments about wanting to learn rhythm skating or "rhythm skate moves" and about how difficult it is to to be on the learning journey for this without others. I wanted to open the conversation about what challenges you are experiencing with this. Is it wanting to increase understanding of musicality in general? Or how musicality is incorporated into skating? Is it specific moves, or a specific rhythm skating style you are trying to understand more? Curious to know. If there are specific moves or styles, but you're not quite sure what they're called, feel free to share video links for reference.

I want to learn this, but I’ll be honest I need help with some of the basics first.
Progress update - if you want to call it that…
It’s been a while since I’ve been to the rink. I went today and used my new skates. They had harder wheels so I felt like a beginner with rentals on. Couldn’t crossover, had a tough time trying to balance and overall apprehensive bc there were a lot of kids around. I felt like my knees were not bent enough (57yo) and I didn’t have a flow Any tips for me to get used to my new skates? I’m having such a tough time progressing. At home I have a 5’x8’ piece of flooring in my basement and I just don’t know which exercises I should do to get better and not be so apprehensive. I wound up selling my orbits and getting a better fitting pair of the boost’s (Riedell on Amazon bc there aren’t any shops close by) Thank you!! 😊
