Finish-it Friday #5
👋 Heyo! Here’s a creative lick challenge for the weekend. Step 1: Watch the video below. Step 2: Learn ONE of the 3 riff variations - the easy, medium or hard one. Step 3: Make up your own ending for it, record and share it under this post! ❕Skip to 2:19 for the easy difficulty riff. ❗Skip to 4:10 for the medium difficulty riff. ‼️ Skip to 6:44 for the hard difficulty riff. ✨ I'm excited to see what you'll come up with this time!

Thanks for this Christian. I’m going to commit to these because I think it’s a great idea. I’m in Madrid next week so might miss that one though. I had a little 10 min break in work so threw this out. But it’s very resolute and a perfect cadence so it sounds more like the end of a jingle or a sitcom theme tune than a real rock song riff
Burnout, Books, and Breaks 🔥📗🥱
Do you have something you do to relax, like reading, writing, or walking? As you may know, I put a lot of energy into my 1-on-1 lessons and this community. I want to help people feel confident and creatively free when picking up the guitar. But it’s not always easy. This month I almost worked a bit too much. Luckily, I saw it coming and took some time off to read and rest. What's your favourite down-time activity?

@Christian Lie Well pre-cancer I was heavily into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA so my exercise was pretty intense to be fair, every single day. Technical training but then a fair bit of running, functional training and strength work. Can't grapple anymore because the surgeries on my neck have left me with nerve damage so I can't get strangled recreationally any more 😢 I'm a qualified personal trainer, not for work but I just became obsessed so decided to study up properly. But as far as nowadays, I run, I hit the heavy bag and I'll throw some weights around, nothing too heavy, just to keep a base level of strength. But again, the cancer stuff is a huge hinderance! Sometimes the nausea is just way too much so I have to be careful.

@Christian Lie Aye, all good though man, there's plenty I can do so we push on!
Tried a triad exercise from Christian
@Christian Lie gave me this cool triad exercise to do after I was asking about how I can open up the fretboard a bit more. I used to play way more guitar, and in metal bands etc so i felt a lot more fluid, but these days, after just playing basic chords I'd forgotten a fair bit. This exercise reminded me of the modes and how I used to use them to travel around the fretboard a bit more fluently. Give it a go! Cheers @Christian Lie

I haven't been able to recently! Had a procedure done on my back. First gig back this weekend though so that should be good!

@Christian Lie Ah I've been in lots of bands to be honest man, lots of originals stuff. I've only started doing covers in the last year. Before that I rarely played any music written by other people. I was in a pop-punk band, 3 piece harmonic rock band (sort of muse style), a couple of really heavy metal bands. And a few other projects along the way
Chord fluency unlocked! 🔐
Geoffrey and I started learning chordal scales (harmonized scales) a while back. For someone who just wanted to learn solos and leads, this is a big step forward. Here's a sneak peek into our lessons and his progression in the past weeks. Congrats @Geoffrey Becker! Keep up the consistency and good work 🎸🤘 I know I went through the topic in this video fast because I just wanted to focus on Geoffrey's progress, but if you're interested in learning this fretboard navigation exercise as well, feel free to reach out to me and I'll be happy to give you a helping hand 😊

@Christian Lie Hmm not specifically that term, but I'll have a guess. I know about harmonics and how to incorporate them into chords... but it's probs not that. Chords that harmonize.... hmm, are you referring to different voicings where you'd move the root note up through harmonizing notes ie 3rd, 5th etc? Or.... could it be to do with modes?

@Christian Lie Ahh! I see. Yeah, great thing to practice that. I'm hopefully going to get to the technique you sent me later dude so I'll record me having a go at it!
