The song you weren't ready for
So, I have songs and albums that are slow burners. I know you know. You almost get mad at yourself for not loving it from the go. I liked OK Computer at first and well, it's near the top of my all timers now. I do this on the show as well. I love it actually as I can hear from listeners who are also "getting it" along with me. Is there a song from this past year that didn’t land at first—but later found you when you were ready? Those are often the ones that last.

From last year, "Me & Angel," off of Perfume Genius' Glory. The soft songs don't really grab me, so on the album's first listen, the song disappeared. But then I saw the video, where he's carried aloft on Alan's shoulders. And after dabbing the corners of my eyes, I put my earbuds in and listened to it a few more times.
First Show
I've considered doing a Morning Show about this but I only have 3 hours. It would take me 3 months. So mine was 16 years old, Jane's Addiction with Mary's Danish opening at Eastern Washington University. I remember walking in to "Coming Down the Mountain" and seeing bodies flying in the air, everyone wearing black, just absolute MAYHEM and all I wanted to do was more of this! I stayed out the pit that day and just stood there in awe to be seeing and hearing the music from a band I loved. I was HOOKED. I think they played 30 minutes because Perry was a mess but I didn't know any better and in fact was shocked when I saw a band play longer! Also first show in Seattle? Pixies. Moore Theater.

My first show without my parents was Radiohead at Liberty State Park in Jersey City with my friend, Dan, from college. They were touring Amnesiac. Kid Koala and the Beta Band opened. That was a pretty good show. My first show when I was a kid in the 80's with my parents was Crystal Gayle at the Fresno Fair. All I remember of that concert was that she made a joke about her hair.
Fav Band You Can't See live
What's a favorite band that you weren't able to see live? There has to be some rules on this one, so here we go: - You must have been able to see them at some point, but didn't, for whatever reason - There's no likely way for you to see them live in the future, for whatever reason For me, there was a chance I could have seen Concrete Blonde play in New Mexico, but I only found out about the concert the day before, and there was no way I would have been able to make it up to the show never mind getting tickets. Also for me, there's bands I thought I'd never see which I've now seen four or five times, and bands that felt like they were right there which I never caught.

Sigh - Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. And this was after Kurt Andersen said, on his now defunct show, Studio 360, "Got plans this weekend? Well, cancel them, and instead see Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings at the Apollo Theater."
Listening Habits
Curious how people are actually listening right now. I play music for people in a room, in a box, sometimes in my own home. When you put on new music, are you Walking? Driving? Cooking? Lying on the floor?? At work with one earbud in. There’s no wrong answer. Just interested in the habits.

I'll listen to KEXP while working, either at the office or at home with the app and a bluetooth receiver to my bookcase stereo. If I'm commuting underground or walking outside when the weather's good, I'll listen to a few playlists and albums downloaded to my phone through iTunes and playing on my earbuds
