Hello everyone, I'm Jonas, 39, from Belgium. Apologies in advance for the lenght this post has grown to, I think I have a tendency to become very talkative about things that passionate me, similar to Stig ;). After having it on the TODO list for a long time, I'm finally joining the challenge. I must admit I am not a complete beginner, and have been interested and working with the breath for over a year in various ways, "holistically"-- the way I prefer to approach things ;) -- and doing so mostly on an individual auto didactic basis. All of this fits in the big picture of a promise I made myself to take better care of myself, of which the breathwork has become one (very enjoyable) aspect. My experiences with breathwork span from (naive) personal experiments, material picked together left and right: various resources such as CO2 and O2 tables that freedivers use, Stig's book, a bookshelf devoted to mindfulness, de-stressing and the like. I own a few of Stig's courses but am still in early stages. I started attending weekly yoga classes since 6 months as I wanted to gain a deeper understanding and experience it myself. Coherent breathing has become a daily evening ritual before going to sleep (20-60 minutes). I apply breathing techniques also during sports: belly breathing and never using the mouth when running (I started running about 4 years ago, also part of this "self care" project) and strength training (since last year to support injury-free running), I vary my runs with the occasional apnee walking/running as suggested in Pelizarri's Manual of Freediving (the effects are noticeable!). There was some time where I had a breathhold routine, I built up to a best time of 5 minutes and really loved all the sensations and the meditative, reflective aspect of it. Due to... life and circumstance... the long breathholds got pushed to the background for a while, however I am rebuilding the habit. Unfortunately that means that my max holds currently will land in the 2:30-3:00 range, not that I'm complaining ;).
