This week we’ve talked a lot about **your own standards**. But here’s the reality… Living by them isn’t always easy. Yesterday after making a promise, I made a decision to fully switch off and spend time with my son. If I’m honest, at first I felt guilty. Like I *should* be doing something else. Working. Catching up. Being “productive.” But one of my standards is being present with the people who matter most. So I stuck to it. And in the end? We had an amazing night. It reminded me of something important: **Your standards aren’t just about work — they’re about life.** Sometimes the standard is pushing harder. Sometimes the standard is being present. Both matter. So as many know, today is St. Patrick’s Day and know of my appreciation of marching in the various parades around New Orleans. This year, there is the AWCI Convention in my back yard that is happening today and tomorrow and as the local rep, I was asked to participate. So no block party and parade for me today, I’ll be answering questions about screws for the next 6 hours. At least the 1/4 zip is a shade of green. Sláinte Y’all. Modern work rarely stops on its own. There is always another email. Another message. Another task waiting. Good fathers learn to draw a line. At some point the laptop closes. The phone goes down. And attention shifts where it belongs. Work deserves commitment. But your family deserves presence. Be disciplined enough to give both their proper place.
