YOUTUBE SURVIVAL GUIDE: The 1 + 1 Strategy of Building a Content Bank
One of the biggest mistakes new content creators make isn’t just inconsistent posting—it’s setting an ideal schedule without allowing room for life to happen. A lot of us start off with the best intentions. We plan to post once a week, or maybe even twice a week, because we know that consistency is key on YouTube. But what most creators don’t account for is that life is unpredictable. A busy workweek, family emergencies, creative burnout, or even just getting sick can derail even the best-laid plans. That’s why I strongly believe that every channel—especially new channels and those struggling with consistency—should consider adopting what I call the 1+1 Strategy of Building a Content Bank. 1️⃣ WHAT IS THE 1+1 STRATEGY? It’s a simple but powerful way to create content without constantly feeling behind. At its most basic, you start by taking your original upload schedule and cutting it in half. ➤ If you plan to post once a week, start by posting every two weeks instead. ➤ If you plan to post twice a week, start by posting once a week instead. The point of this is to over-deliver and under-promise. But here’s the key—you still push yourself to create content at your original planned pace. How It Works in Practice: Let’s say your plan is to post two videos per week. Instead of telling your audience that’s your schedule, you announce that your plan is to post once a week while still creating two videos a week behind the scenes. ➤ Week 1: You create two videos, release the first one and schedule the second one for Week 2. ➤ Week 2: You create two more videos, scheduling them for Weeks 3 and 4. ➤ Week 3: You create two more videos, scheduling them for Weeks 5 and 6. ➤ Week 4: You create two more videos, scheduling them for Weeks 7 and 8. By the end of just four weeks, you’re already a full month ahead. You now have a "bank" of scheduled videos, allowing you to stay consistent even when life happens. 2️⃣ WHY USE THE 1+1 STRATEGY? 🔹 It Builds Consistency Without Overwhelming You: Many creators burn out early because they set a schedule they wish they could keep, rather than one they realistically can keep. By starting at half-speed, you allow yourself to build the habit of creating without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

@George Benson how far ahead do you recommend ? Right now I have 2 weeks of content scheduled, I’m doing 1 long video on Saturday and supporting shorts for that video every day. I feel like if I get some good advice or want to tweak something in my videos and style I wouldn’t want to get to far ahead. Thanks for your help !
👋 Hello everyone, I’m Jessica
My story is probably familiar to many of you. I’ve had the idea to start a YouTube channel more times than I can count. I’ve done the research, mapped things out, and then backed off for one reason or another again and again. I’m sure many of you can relate. Instead of beating myself up for not starting sooner, I’m choosing to trust that there was a reason for the timing. The way I think about content, creation, and monetization has changed a lot over the years. I value authenticity and integrity deeply. If I’d started back in 2017, I likely would’ve fallen into a “fake it till you make it” approach that never really felt right for me. This time feels different. I’ve always loved to learn new things and teach what I’m learning. But this time around I know I have real experience and a clear point of view, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned in a way that’s honest, more refined, and actually useful. My plan is to launch with a series of related, evergreen masterclass-style videos that I’m outlining now. This way, even if I decide this platform isn’t quite for me, I’ll have a small library of content that I’m proud to share with the world. While I’ll work toward monetization credentials and adding in relevant affiliates, I am choosing to look at those as a little bonus income that will hopefully pay for the cost of the channel and production over time. My primary focus is using YouTube to support and grow the consulting and advisory work I already do (I’m a growth strategist in the online business space), and to promote smaller DIY products layered in over time. Of course, this is just the plan as it stands now. I’m open to learning and letting things evolve as I go! If I’m being honest, the part I’m dreading the most is editing. I’ve created online courses before and know it’s not my strength, but I’m committed to testing things and generating some revenue before investing in support. I’m looking forward to connecting with other creators who are at a similar stage (or a bit further along), and I’d love to explore collaborations with people in the online business niche once I get going.

Creator Boost tribe has been an interesting journey...
But, perhaps for me the community is too big. I kind of feeling a bit like drowning... Perhaps I'm not at the right place. Not because I haven't learned anything, but I need a more personal approach. So, I'm considering moving to a smaller community. Also, I get the impression that this community is not so much for beginners like me, starting from ZERO. SO, THANKS TO ALL. Take care and wish all the best!
