LS newbie from the old school SBC world. Trying to get on track in the new world of LS tech
Speartech harness and ECM location 67 Nova
Speartech harness and ECM location 67 Nova Hello all, I am looking for some guidance for installation for my ECM in relation to my wiring and would like maybe a guide how to approach the easiest way to complete this task. I have a wiring setup using the route 22 from American auto wire within the glovebox for easy access. I built a frame to hold the fuse box out of half inch square tubing and mounted it under the dash. This version 1.0 with the small block Chevy. I would like to build a similar frame to put next to or parallel to the fuse box for the ECM for easy access for LS1 version 2.0(drive by cable speartech 98-02) I will plum the spear tech wiring for the ECM through the hole of the firewall where the heater fan goes with the grommet provided. Plans are to use a Mojave electric heater if needed for defroster and AC once I get to this stage. The key here is to get the motor started and broken in and a tune to run the car during the break in process. Any ideas or pitfalls to avoid when I am ready to take this on would be appreciated. Thanks Joe

Thanks TJ for the insight. ECU not ECM …. Yes, the install for the ECU will be for convenience and make it bulletproof reliability. I would like to take on the hot rod tour 1 day or LS fest in Bowling Green some day. Going to start finishing up the sanding and spatter paint for the DSE tubs and aerodyne fuel tank install first then wiring and firing the motor

How bout just a computer instead of all the acronyms 🤨 This is my hold up on how to tune it? I should’ve waited to buy the Holley setup but I jumped the gun and 1400 bucks later. I am up for the challenge though.

Hi TJ and thanks. I have a speartech harness drive by cable with LS2 ECM. I have some of the totaled 97 vette but far as pulling the wires and trying to make it work and never having done an LS swap, I think this would of been way above my pay grade. The speartech harness is brand new in the box just waiting to wire it up when I get the other stuff done.

Hi Mike and thanks for the compliments. I think the goal right now is just to get the thing running with breaking oil. Everything is brand new except for the crank and the block. The plan is to get it running broken in and then down the road. I'm gonna put a supercharger on it belt driven like a Whipple or Magnuson that will fit under a flat hood that I have trying to keep it simple now, so the motor gets broken in and we'll go from there new to the LS game and I just don't know which direction to go. My friend convinced me to buy the 97 Corvette and pull the motor from it to put in the nova. It's been 12 years since then and I'm really tired of not driving it since July 2019 with the small block Chevy I had in it which I wiped the cam gear and I can never keep it in timing so here we are waiting to get her turned over going on seven years. I've been a slow poke to get it done, but I retired a little while ago and I just want to get the build over the goal line
What Are the Must-Attend Car Events?
I’m planning to travel to more car and race events around the country this year. What events are must-attends that I should add to my list?
