Disaster!
On my way home from competition. Swedish Cup qualifier. Today i played embarrassingly bad. No heart raise or feeling nervous. Just was not there in my mind. But i found it hard to fokus, it was like my usual ritual och routine was gone. Must be some kind of stress anyway. Shuld have had coach @Kevin ORourke by my side . This is depressing 😥

Oh i can really see the sadness in your eyes Kevin. I had the same look yesterday. I get into a real empty state of mind after days like that. But i agree, the only way to get better is to analyse and figure out why things happen and of course highlight the good stuff to. Even tho we all know that "its all in your head", i often go and tweak the technique instead . Stupid :)

@Kevin ORourke We shuld never be ashamed of having a bad day, being nervous or so on. You did the right thing. It just shows us all that we are not alone. When you are in a game and this happens, you feel really lonely and think you’re the only one playing bad. The logic mind disappears 😊
Match Scenario Friday 😀
Lets go for a new match scenario, if you guys think its boring just say and ill stop 😊 Game: The Score is 11-11 Both Teams have 2boules left, its the shooter in the opponents team that got the 2 boules in hand. He/she have had i high hitRate in this game. The opponent have the closest boule, 60cm from jack and your team have the second at 100cm ftån jack. How do you play! A: Point 2 times and hope for a miss or hope he doesn’t hit a carreaue? B: Shoot the Jack, guessing his good hitRate is to hard to ignore. C: Shoot 2 times and let him have 1 point. Or maby you have a other solution? 😎 Happy Friday everyone!

@Thor Hestas Its true, the positioning matters. But in my mind if you choose to point then you are handing over the command a bit. Then we are hoping they will miss. And if they don’t then its game over. Especially if the shooter have been shooting good. But ive pointed in this scenario in a real game before, and it went well to. Sometimes you just get the gut feeling. I would be nice to get real stats on it tho. If we know that we will point both boules with success or hit both shots, then i feel the shots is better. 😊
Just for fun… A Match scenario!
Lets say its a tight match, score is 11-12. You are the only one standing with one boule left. The opponent have the point in this round but it is like 1,5m from the jack. And you have the 2nd and 3rd boule. So shoot to win or point safe and play a new round at 12-12? Wich will you choose and why? Does it matter to you if its 6,8 or 10 meters? Happy friday all!

@Kevin ORourke wow, thats cool. Takes time to find and build a good team. You save alot energy when you know each other, less discussions. Since i found my way back to petanque again 5years ago ive chose to play with many many different players. But this is for a reason. Ive always been a bit shy and never talk much to other players. And i think this made me feel more pressure. Unsecure. But after getting to know and play with different people a whole new world opened up for me. More fun to go to tournaments, fun to listen to other tactics and its not that dramatic to face my opponents. Now they are friends 😊 (Faced my fears 😎) But with this said… i think its better for the results to find a solid team that have the same game and goals as you.

@Kostas Karatsalos i totally agree on what you are saying. There is so many variables in the game. But i wish i would get the courage to always 100% go for the shot in this scenario. Because in the long run this is a win win situation. 1.if you shoot and hit, you win and you will be proud of that decision. 2. If you shoot and miss you shuld be proud that you dare to go for the win, proud of getting out of your comfort zone. And if you choose to point and the score get to 12-12 then its actually a gamble. Because in this final round you get to start, and if all players in both teams succeed with all their throws, the opponent will get 1point. This is of course just in theory and i know that not many rounds are 100%. But in s singles game its absolutely a likely scenario. Just a way to think about it 😊
House Rules and Game Variations?
Do any of your clubs have interesting "House Rules" or game variations that you play? Has anyone played with 2 cochonnes - scoring off of each? Lately, we've been playing some 3 vs 3 with each player using all 3 boules. That many boules out there forces practice of different techniques - precision pointing, lobbing over the front mess of boules, shooting to clear a path, etc.

@James Clapper oh we play like this often at our club. Think its a good way to practice. Havent done it in competitions tho.
Developing a unique playing style?
What do you think about playing style, and how do you actually develop your own? I mostly taught myself by watching YouTube, reading books, and searching for information online. At the club, people often say that everyone plays in their own way. I don’t fully agree with that. In my view, there are certain fundamentals you can’t ignore — for example, without a straight arm movement, you simply can’t throw a truly straight boule. That’s why I really like step-by-step explanations like in this article, which i use as a reference in my training: https://petanque.wordpress.com/how-to/how-to-throw-a-boule/ When I train to reach a higher level, I sometimes consciously try playing styles from top players like Suchaud, Cocciolo, Molinas. But how to incorporate the most useful parts for my own style, at what point does everything start to fall into place logically? Do you have your own playing style, and how did you develop it?

The last 1,5year ive changed technique back and forth several times. Ive never played with much spin on my boules. Not a good wrist. Same in shooting and pointing. But along this journey i think i got more spin. Ive like you described tried to play like Suchaud, fazzino and even like that Penin guy… with REALLY good results, but when i go to a tournament.. the courage fails me and i fall back to my own technique again. I think we just need to embrace our own style, we all have different bodies and backgrounds. And if we were shooting 90% perfect boules, then many would copycat out style. I think the most important thing is to have a throw that is easy to do and feels good. Be able to throw the boule 11m without falling out of the ring. 😊
