I made a couple comments during the zoom but thought I should mention one more thing that might be helpful. Have one door in and designate one as the exit door. Another way to help ensure that everyone exits out one door.. have tables that lead to your exit with all the kids' crafts and take-home items. We have volunteers that are craft runners that bring the crafts to these tables once the crew has completed that rotation. Before dismissal I will print a daily update, page and place it with each kid's craft. At dismissal direct them to the tables (each crew has a spot) to grab their kid's items. We use the path divider things (like you would see at an airport) to create the path out that leads right to the door.

One year we did a western theme and had a giant inflatable horse by the exit door. 😂 Made it really easy to direct parents where to exit.
New Families
Hi! We are working on tracking retention rate of new families. We currently send postcards to first time guests. What are some other ways your children's ministry reaches out to new families?

We send a personal text to each new parent, send a hand-written postcard to each kid that they can bring back for a prize, and then we have an email sequence for new families that’s staggered out over 6 weeks.
Volunteer Kids
Hello! We have volunteers that bring their kids to serve with them. I love that they want to serve as a family and teach their kiddos how to serve in the church, but as far as safety and ratio I was curious what others do when it comes to this. This happens mainly when parents are serving in the nursery. Do kids need to be a certain age before serving with a parent? With nursery is it adult only volunteers?

We run a Junior Leadership program at Mariners for upper elementary kids. They can serve in a few different areas within the kids ministry. This isn't a Mariners thing, but I've always used the 10-5 rule: they've got to be at least 10 years old and 5 years older than the group they're serving (obviously not nursery though). I'm also a big fan of having kids serve with their parents in roles like greeting, parking, etc. Parents modeling serving is HUGE for their kids!
Systematic Theology
I’ve started reading “How to Teach Kid Theology” and they talk about the importance of studying systematic theology. I was wondering if anyone had any book or online recommendations?!

Wayne Grudem's book is the gold standard. It's what they use in a lot of seminaries.
Communication/Training Platform
Does anyone use an online platform for training and communication for volunteers? One example is Lifeway’s Ministry Grid.

For scheduling, Planning Center. For everything else, I actually shifted to Skool. That's where we put our leader guides, training content, calendar, etc. And it's where most of our communication lived too.
