How to Make a Simple Raised Bed Garden for Containers
Raised bed gardens aren't just for large yardsโ€”they can be perfectly adapted for container gardening too. A raised bed dedicated to containers helps organize your plants, improves drainage, reduces weeds, and makes gardening easier and more accessible. Hereโ€™s how you can create a simple, practical raised bed specifically for your container plants. ๐๐ž๐ง๐ž๐Ÿ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐š ๐‘๐š๐ข๐ฌ๐ž๐ ๐๐ž๐ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ * ๐ˆ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ ๐ƒ๐ซ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž: Elevation allows excess water to drain away, preventing soggy conditions. * ๐„๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ž๐ซ ๐€๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ: Reduces strain on your back and kneesโ€”perfect for gardeners of all ages. * ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐Ž๐ซ๐ ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ณ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Clearly define growing areas, making plant care simpler and more effective. ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎโ€™๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐ž๐ž๐ * Lumber (untreated cedar or composite boards are ideal) * Screws or nails * Drill or screwdriver * Landscaping fabric or weed barrier (optional) * Gravel (optional, for added drainage beneath containers) * Containers suitable for your plants ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ-๐›๐ฒ-๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐†๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐‘๐š๐ข๐ฌ๐ž๐ ๐๐ž๐ ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ: ๐‚๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐‹๐จ๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง * Select a sunny, flat spot with easy access. ๐ŸŒฟ Dig Into the Benefits of Gardening: Why Growing Green Is Good for You
Thereโ€™s something magical about putting your hands in the dirt, tending to your plants, and watching life bloom right before your eyes. But did you know that gardening doesnโ€™t just benefit your plants โ€” it also boosts your health? According to the Mayo Clinic Health System, gardening is more than just a weekend hobby. Itโ€™s a proven way to enhance your physical and mental well-being. Whether you're nurturing houseplants, herbs on a windowsill, or a full backyard garden, the benefits go far beyond the blooms. ๐Ÿง  Mental Health: Natureโ€™s Therapy In todayโ€™s fast-paced world, stress is almost unavoidable. Gardening offers a natural escape โ€” a grounding ritual that can reduce anxiety and improve your mood. The Mayo Clinic notes that regular gardening can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, helping you feel more relaxed and focused. Thereโ€™s also something deeply meditative about watering plants, pulling weeds, and simply being present in your garden. That mindfulness is powerful. It gives your brain a break from screens, notifications, and to-do lists. Bonus: Watching something you planted grow and thrive can give you a real sense of purpose and accomplishment โ€” and thatโ€™s a huge win for your mental well-being. ๐Ÿ’ช Physical Health: A Gentle Full-Body Workout Gardening gets your body moving, too! From digging and planting to weeding and watering, these gentle movements provide low-impact physical activity that can help with: - Improving flexibility and strength - Burning calories and maintaining a healthy weight - Enhancing balance and coordination - Reducing the risk of chronic disease And because gardening usually takes place outdoors, youโ€™re also soaking in valuable vitamin D from the sun โ€” essential for strong bones and immune health. โค๏ธ Connection and Community One of the less obvious (but incredibly powerful) benefits of gardening is the sense of connection it can foster. Whether youโ€™re swapping seeds with neighbors or posting plant progress in the Potted & Proud community, gardening is a great way to connect with others who share your passion.

I find it very peaceful to take care of my plants. I really want to grow more vegetables and learn how to have a sustainable garden.
Herbs For Every Occasion
Herbs are such versatile plants. From seasoning our food, helping our bodies to delicious teas. And then they are also such helpers in the gardens. They can repel unwanted insects, four legged critters, even some not so friendly insects.๐Ÿชฐ These versatile plants are a must have in our garden. We've been expanding each year on which ones we grow for helping to protect the garden and giving us some delicious flavors for our kitchen. What' your favorite herb to grow and why? โค๏ธ
