Is everything really "junk"?
I’ve been noticing an interesting trend in 2026 in the decluttering and simplicity space. A lot of creators have shifted from “let’s clear what no longer serves us” to a much stronger message that almost everything is “junk” and that we should stop buying nearly anything at all. It’s made me pause—not in a negative way, but a reflective one. It raises some good questions for me: What’s the difference between clutter and comfort? When does simplifying become freeing—and when does it start to feel limiting? And who decides what’s “junk” anyway? I’m finding myself less interested in extreme rules and more interested in discernment—keeping what supports my life as it is now, and being thoughtful about what I bring in next. Some things really are excess. Others add ease, creativity, or quiet pleasure. I’m curious how this trend is landing for you. Does it inspire you? Or does it make you want to define simplicity on your own terms?

Celeste, I have been thinking, for a while now, of having less 'stuff'. In October, my best friend, and housemate, died. He had been ill for 10 years, and more so in 2025. I am currently having to go through mountains of 'stuff' and I realised, I do not want anyone to have to do this for me, so I am doing it now. It has been an amazing wake-up call for me.

@Celeste Elash thank you, Celeste. I realised after his death, that I am grateful I was there at the end, and that he is at peace. I couldn't wish for more. And, I am grateful it has woken me to having less. I have wanted less for years, and never had the motivation to de-clutter. I am finding it easier than I thought.
Did you break up with your phone?
Have any of you been successful at using your phone less? Any tips to do all the things off-line? Just started reading this book How To Break Up with Your Phone, by Catherine Price, very interesting! Having a hard time disentangling the million things I use my iPhone for, many I hadn't even noticed until starting to read this book. It's so convenient to have everything on your phone, isn't it? I would need to revert to multiple devices, notebooks, etc. to do all the tasks that now live on my phone. Which I'm not exactly opposed to, it just takes some thinking through and walking back the past 15 years or so lol.I'm curious if anyone here has been successful, in any way, big or small - even the small wins are super exciting and helpful! Hoping to learn from your experiences! Thank you! 🙏😊

My phone is a tool. I do not use data on my phone, I use my WiFi at home and when I am away from home, I have it with me in case I need to call someone, breakdown service or similar. I am lucky, at 74 I am well and truly retired, and I use my landline, still. I have a full social life, so I need Messenger and Telegram to connect with my friends. My phone used to stress me, constantly notifying me of this or that, hence breaking up with it a few years ago.
Do I need a dryer?
Inspired by Connie's videos, and having recently moved house, I asked myself - do I really need to buy a new dryer? I've been going to the dryer in our local shopping centre which is expensive but apparently using commercial machines is better for the environment if you have to use a dryer. Also looking it up online, I see that on balance having less clothes and washing more often uses less water overall (cost of growing cotton etc).

It must be 30 years since I used a dryer. The sun dries my washing, and it is really cheap. If it is raining, I hang my washing in my garage, and I have a small contraption that has tiny pegs on it and that hangs small items, such as handkerchiefs, dish cloths, and underwear, in the bathroom, or above the fireplace in my lounge. It is easy to move when visitors arrive.
Our favorite way to unplug lately
Hello our amazing women 🤍 I wanted to share something my husband and I have been really into lately. We’re always looking for simple, easy things we can do together to unplug in our downtime. Last year, we came across a man in a park painting with a tiny portable paint set, and we fell in love. This week, we’ve been taking little strolls to the old church in our village and painting the beautiful architecture we see along the way. It’s become a nice ritual. We ordered our supplies on Amazon. We did end up getting each part of the kit separately, but I’m sure you can find similar sets if you feel inspired to look them up too. @Celeste Elash that is a wonderful drawing of your dog. We tend to criticise our work, yet if you keep it up, you will find more confidence, and your drawings will improve. I love that you added that beautiful shade of pink, too. After years working as a graphic designer, and illustrator, I truly believed I couldn't draw. I started an art class and that single line drawing was one of the first we did. We went on to paint watercolours and I found a preference for mixed media, using watercolour paints and pencils, also ink and pastel. My work is small, A5, I have not got the hang of large paintings yet.
Tiny Step🪴 Jan 9, 2026
Each Friday in this group, I’ll be sharing one simple “Tiny Step” you can take toward a little more peace and clarity, using small, doable actions. This is our first Tiny Step together. Today’s Tiny Step: Clean out your purse or everyday bag 👜 Take everything out, wipe the inside, and only put back what you truly use. Our bags can hold a lot, not just items, but clutter, stress, and forgotten things. After you’ve done this, notice how it feels the next time you reach for it. Does anything feel lighter, calmer, or easier? If you do this step, comment “done” or share what you noticed. I’d love to hear how this feels for you, and we’ll check in again next week.

I emptied my purse this morning, and am feeling so good about the lighter feeling I have. I do not carry my phone with me in my purse, rather in a tote I keep in my vehicle. I am in the process of lightening my wardrobe, too. I didn't realise just how much I have that could be sent to the charity shops around me. I like to have a casual around-the-house wardrobe, and one for my regular ventures out socially.
