CF COACHES TIP: Box step ups
Some quick tips on the simple step up :)

@Andrew Alvarado Hey Andrew, I have just joined the academy a couple of months ago and I have applied to take the L3 within the next couple of months. I am curious what "booklet" are you using to prepare? I am just studying from the main site going through the "Study Material" but I wonder if you have any other material that you might recommend? :) Thanks in advance! Good luck with the test 🤗
COACHES EYE
Another Coach’s Eye… but this time you coach me. Watch the power snatch and give me: • Body part • Direction • Timing Verbal: short + specific Visual: “look like this, not this” Tactile: athlete moves to the target—not you moving them Coaches—what cue are you giving and why?

I'd say, "keep the bar close!" Not only I see the bar gets a bit far away from the body but I also on the catch the bar is a bit forward. So another cue might be "Get the chest through between your arms", however its possible if we improve the barbell path the catching position may be improved as well.

@Wes Piatt Lats! Cueing to "Squeeze the barbell into your body" might help keep lats engaged, creating a more efficient barbell path.
COACHING DRILL
Rule: Coach gets one cue, delivered on one exhale. If it takes two breaths → cue is too complex. Example ❌ “Try to stay tighter and keep your lats on and pull smoother” ✅ “Squeeze oranges in your armpits.” Fail condition - Overexplaining - Justifying the cue - Teaching anatomy This builds confidence, not verbosity. Comment below on how this went for you :)

I love this. Through the lesson of recording myself coaching, I was faced with the harsh reality that I am guilty of this at times, haha! Yikes 😅 I have been a lot more conscious, and mindful of this behavior since, but its certainly work in progress! 😃

What would your cue be to this athlete? Here are the rules: 1. You only get 5 words 2. Why did you choose that cue 3. If you have one other cue, what would it be? And why?

"Rib cage down" to help stabilize midline and place pelvis in a more tucked in position, which will help put the spine in a more neutral position. And "take your running shoes off!" haha!, to help her with foot stability, and shift weight back towards heels. Those shoes are propelling the athlete forward, so I am not sure if the issue is ankle mobility, shoe "instability" or both.

Hey everyone! I'm Janella, coaching out of Watsonville, Ca and hopefully soon out of Gilroy as well! For fun, I love spending time with my dogs, (or any dogs really!) rucking the local trails, and lifting heavy stuff. Looking forward to learning with you all!
