I'm Izni, relatively new to rabbits (got our first group in May this year!) but I'm obsessed with rabbit genetics and production, and data collection regarding both! Located in Tasmania, Australia so a bit of a different perspective because no easy access to the level of show/meat production breeding stock those in Europe/USA might have. Basically we're at the level of your average homegrown meat mutts, but I'm curious to see what I can achieve through selective pressure in my herd. My eventual dream is to make enough network connections to be able to either import high level stock or frozen semen to do AI(large scale production in Europe do use AI in rabbits! It's not impossible to induce ovulation and have does take apparently) to make a difference in the gene pool here in Australia. My dream breeds would probably be meat production orientated first rather than fancy, since that's my primary aim to having them- small scale livestock farming. I'm always looking for smarter, more cost effective ways to doing things, including veterinary concerns, as paid vet care here is extremely expensive and tends to focus on larger animals in my area.
