Missing Out on Easy Government Contract Opportunities in Plain Sight
There’s currently a U.S. Forest Service janitorial contract open for bidding in Eldorado National Forest, California. It covers routine services like cleaning restrooms, trash removal, and maintaining campgrounds, picnic areas, and trailheads across multiple recreation sites. What stands out is that it’s a 5-year opportunity (base + option years) and it’s set aside specifically for small businesses under NAICS 561720 (Janitorial Services). The opportunity is already structured for small operators, but this is where most people miss out not because the contracts aren’t accessible, but because they don’t take the time to actually respond or prepare properly. These types of bids come up often across federal agencies, especially in forestry, parks, and public facilities. The demand is consistent, but participation is surprisingly low. If you’re paying attention to this space, you start to realize there’s a steady flow of opportunities that most people simply overlook.

@Marlan Gaines I’ve been in that position before and bidding without clear wins can get frustrating fast. What helped was focusing on the right opportunities and refining the approach to proposals and targeting. I’ve had success winning contracts, and a few small shifts can make a big difference. Happy to share some practical tips that have worked well.
