New book ready for new dog
My new dog, Lyon, arrives on the 4th of May, all being well. Ahead of his arrival I bought Alex Lato's book, Braveheart, it arrived today and is jam packed. I bought this book because the breed I've gone for, Cocker Spaniel, can be a bit on the soft, sensitive side, so an early focus on confidence seems like a good move. I also want to up my play game and he will be high drive so the more outlets I have at my disposal the better. I will be training him towards gundog working tests and whatever else he wants to get involved in.

This is fantastic sally! Great to have you back. What a cutie. They are little pocket rockets, I think you'll love him! Xx
Finding Out If My New Rescue is Friendly
I took Rocket out to see what he's like with other dogs recently. Video below.

Rocketโ€™s Story ๐Ÿš€
Since I posted about this new project dog I saved from the pound a lot of people have asked what his story is. I made a quick video to explain. ๐Ÿ‘‡

I Just Rescued This Dog!
Today I rescued this dog from the pound. He has some behaviour issues that meant he was two hours from being put to sleep. Iโ€™ll be training him and sharing updates here and then eventually rehoming him. He needs a new name though. Hit me with your suggestions.

You're such a bloody legend Nick. ๐Ÿคฉ what a lush dog, love those bat ears! Echo? I don't know, I think you have to try names on dogs a bit. So looking forward to watching your progress with this!! Exciting x
Send Away Question
Does anyone have any detailed resources or advice for training a send away? Specifically the type where the dog runs until they are stopped (rather than running to a particular object). I know conceptually what I want, but Iโ€™m struggling to find out how to get there. Most people locally train using a mat/cone as a target, which Iโ€™d like to avoid, but I canโ€™t find step by step guidance for any other techniques. Thank you!

I've only heard of using a target and then fading that out... interested to know why you're not up for that technique? @Gary Martin still has the best sendaway I've ever seen in this group so he might have a suggestion! Pretty sure he used sending his spaniel to her food bowl for a few weeks. Not sure about the visuals
