Day 9 - Conditioning, scent detection, focus heel and SAT
Conditioning last night. I’m so not feeling the current plan so it was a drag haha. Back to working with Canineapex end of the month and I cannot wait. Did some Kong searches last night. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the scent tube? Video attached 🤣 Abby had an absolute ball with the searches and Franks indication is getting better each time. Need to make effort to include scent training every day. It makes them so happy 🥰 Focus heel this morning. I’ve never trained it on right side and I really like it. First two steps are pretty good if you ask me 😊 https://www.instagram.com/stories/thecoastaltails/3733398093967169735?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igsh=bnlqcGRnMW5qM3Zp Finished out walk with a SAT search with the worlds slowest retrieve 🤣 https://www.instagram.com/stories/thecoastaltails/3733476961427731726?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igsh=dGduZWkzZGNmaWFv

Day 220: Kashi's Turn to Shine
I'm afraid the dog training was sidelined today apart from their usual morning walkies, which consisted of me trying to look convincingly interested as my neighbour insisted on showing me a million pictures of the Coronation Street set that him and his wife had gone to see over the weekend. Yawn 🥱 I sneaked off at 3pm for a showjumping lesson with a trainer near Tintagel. Man. Kashi was brilliant and stole yet another instructor's heart 😂 couldn't believe she was 24 lol. She jumped everything like a pro and we were set some pretty technical exercises, having to take a fence and turn tightly without changing speed to another fence on an angle. It was so fun and really lovely to feel her enjoying the jumping. She's so tuned into me and the task, just an angel <3 ❤️ The age thing intrigues me a bit with dog sports and "retiring" dogs... in the horse world, many top horses are broken at half or even a third of Kashi's age. Horses are asked to do too much, too hard, too fast and too soon, often in ways that are biomechanically incorrect and mentally damaging. There are some vets, trainers, physios, and other experts really pushing for standards of riding and training to improve for the horse's benefit but it's a long slog. I don't know that this is the same in dog sports as we're not riding them around, but are things like biomechanics/soundness considered much with the kind of exercises dogs are asked to do? I've not looked into it but I'm just curious to know if that's a thing. I'm sure there has been controversy around the vertical wall thing in protection and working trials but might have imagined that.

@Nick Benger thanks Nick. I did wonder. I'm a big fan of longevity in animals!

@Lauren Edwards haha i should aim for that really. It's good to have a goal! I'm just not remotely competitive, only against myself. Maybe i need to go get the bug and it will come...
Podcast Suggestions 🎙️
I'm back recording podcasts this week. I already actually have a 'guest wish-list' as long as my arm but I thought it would be cool to hear who you want to hear from. Any recommendations? Can be subject recommendations too.

@Nick Benger if you get Andy on @Jenna Owen and I will be loving it 😂. I'm considering joining his paid Patreon at some point as much for lols as for training tips but I'm not signing up to anything else until I've gone through your play challenge!!

Day 219: Private Agility Session
I booked in with Debbie for a 1:1 seeing as work got in the way of my usual Friday session last week. Omg. I don't even know where to start. It was SO good. I took all 3 and all 3 were f**king brilliant 🤩🤩🤩Oh man, my whippet is BACK!! She was jumping and barking and even nipping at me for the ball which made sending her to obstacles at speed and with that motivation that I've been missing for so long SO much easier! I used some of Alex' "chase and hide" just before the walk out to get her boggly little eyes even more out on stalks. It worked a treat. I went with the intention of working on lateral distance with A and I, and just anything fun and playful with Skye cos she's a little cutie and goes bonkers for food. We used a ground tap on the landing side of a jump on the walk out to encourage focus to take that fence, rather than do what they naturally want to do which is to suck back in towards you. It worked really well but they were stopping the other side and sniffing as they thought I'd put a treat down there! So it took a bit of tweaking but it's a possibility for improving push laterally to obstacles. I'm really wanting to move away from delivering them to everything! It was a real shame we didn't film any of it. But it felt great to have to run like crazy to the other side of the tunnel because Aster was going so bloody fast through it, i couldn't keep up! And her wing wraps after a jump were phenomenal 😍 Islay also absolutely killed a jump-tunnel-jump-dog walk entry with lateral distance and at high speed. I was blown away by these three today, can't stop smiling. Things I need to work on are: - different cue for clockwise spin. Sit in chair and feed from opposite hand - Sending to objects with lateral distance - sendaway helps with this - Behaviours in front but cue with more distance from dog - Running faster!!! 😂 Kashi had a low key ride out in walk this morning as I have a showjumping lesson tomorrow! My instructor from the cross country clinic on Saturday also sent me some video which i didn't realise she was taking! so I made a little reel ❤️https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPM0D9hjaeM/?igsh=aGVmZmswbHRxb3Bj

Lupe's Training Diary (with Onyx cameos)
I am going to experiment with a new format here. Hosting all of my daily entries in one thread. I'll periodically create a new thread when it gets too long here. For those that don't know the two dogs I will post about here are Lupe & Onyx. In the photo Onyx is on the left, Lupe on the right. P.S. If you want to also host your diaries in one thread feel free to experiment yourself.

@Nick Benger lucky bunny! I've lost count of how many Aster has killed. It does mean i don't have to face the finishing off which is a win😂
