It’s Christmas and I hope you are all having a wonderful day. Mine is a bit quiet as my son is with his dad this year so I thought we could have some fun. Type Christmas followed by your name into the gifs and let’s share a Christmassy version of us 🤣
I completely resonate with what you shared—the flow of sessions and growing confidence in our skills as directors are huge wins! A year ago, I often second-guessed myself mid-session, wondering if I was truly facilitating the space for the Holy Spirit to move or if I was getting in the way. Now, that trust in the process feels so much more natural; the sessions unfold with a rhythm that's both peaceful and profound, and I can hold space with greater ease and presence. For me, one aspect that has become noticeably easier is trusting the directee's own discernment process without rushing to "fix" or over-guide. Experience has taught me that the real fruit comes from companioning them patiently as they listen to God, rather than my own interventions. It's freed up so much energy and reduced that inner anxiety about "doing it right." This has been especially evident in my Military Spiritual Direction Practice, where I companion active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. The unique challenges of military life—deployments, transitions, moral injury—require an even deeper trust in God's timing and the directee's resilience. Over the past year, I've seen how this patient approach helps foster true healing and spiritual growth in those contexts. What do you think about others here? What's one area that's felt easier for you lately in direction sessions? Heath Garcia
